Question about 1992 Dodge Ram 250

1 Answer

Hard starting seems like engine not getting enough gas. hard to start. I have to turn the ignitin on for a few seconds and then it will eventually start; sometimes right away, most often after several tries. Seems to be fine after it starts. I had the fuel pressure checked, 32psi. it seened torun better after I changed the fuel filter. Where is the Fuel Pump filter located? Is this something I can do w/o lowering the gas tank? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Aslo, does anyone know where I can get a wiring diagram for this van?

Hard to start sometimes

You don't say what the year make and model is.
I am going to assume it is fuel injected, so the problem could be a faulty fuel pump or check valve in the pump.
The fuel line should have some pressure before you crank the engine. If the line has low or zero pressure, it takes a long time to pump it back up enough to start the engine.

Good chance it is not getting fuel, or enough fuel.
When the rig is cold, the choke is closed. As it warms up, the choke opens.
If the metering jets inside the carb are dirty, they may not be letting enough fuel into the barrels. You could also have a vac leak that is masked by the choke until the engine warms up.

Car will turn over but not fire up sometimes will get it to start not sure if its the fuel pump

It can either be the fuel pump or the ignition module. Have someone listen by the fuel tank or take the gas cap off and use a screwdriver to open the metal door under the cap, as you turn the ke foreward, not far enough to crank the engine over but so all the dash lights come on. You should hear the fuel pump turn on for a few seconds. Fuel pumps work then not work then work right before the go out for good.

Ignition modules start to work only while the engine is cold, then eventually the won't work at all.

Good Luck

Ran out of gas and now put gas in and it will not start turns over but not getting any gas

When the engine is stopped, your fuel pump will only run for 1 second when you turn the key on This is not long enough if you have run out of gas. You will need to turn the key on and off at a few seconds interval for about 2 minutes. This should get the fuel through and pressurise the fuel rail Once there is fuel pressure in the rail, the engine will start..

2000 LeSabre starts but runs very rough and stalls. After

Sounds like the plugs are not firing hot enough on initial start-up. Try a quick spark plug change, and clean throttle body. The gas being injected, isn't being burned fast enough by the plugs, which causes the car to have a hard start-up. You may try a higher octane gas or Lucas injector cleaner with your usual octane rating. Lucas comes in a very small bottle, and works very well in my opinion.

Try pumping the gas pedal 3 to 4 times before starting your car. If that does'nt work, check your automatic chock, it might not be opening up.

Hard but eventual start

Sounds like you may have a leaky injector which is both leaking fuel into one of the cylinders, and bleeding down any fuel rail pressure. Extra fuel makes it hard to start, loss of rail pressure takes a few seconds for fuel pump to build pressure back up.
