Question about 2005 Subaru Impreza

1 Answer

Engine Blew - Subaru Impreza 2005 Just 6 weeks after a service my engine blew. After checking a few things after the event - my oil levels were low however my oil warning light had not come on, the first i knew that there may be a problem was that there was a faint ticking/tapping noise which over a 5Km distance got excessively worse. There is no evidence that the engine had been chewing oil and it definately hadnt been blowing smoke. Any ideas?

Sounds like you blew a fuse. look in your manual or on fuse cover for listing of which fuse is which and check to see if that fuse is blown. When more than one thing stops working its usually a fuse because they tie a few components to one fuse, so that's probably the issue.

sounds like a blown engine, you might be able to locate a used engine and get it installed, rebuilding that engine is going to be expensive. If you just replace the turbo, you would probably just be wasting your money since the engine was run with no oil.

97 impreza 2.2l coupe on start up there is a engine knock until the car fully warms up and then its gone

THis could be several things. Start by making sure that there is nothing under the hood that is hitting the belts or pulleys. Check the oil level. If the oil level is low, add enough to top it off according to the dipstick. If the oil is okay, look to see if it is dark, thin and runny. If so, change it and the filter. If that is all okay, it could be a valve or lifter. Watch for oily spots to show up on the rear bumper which would indicate that you are blowing oil out the bottom of the engine - not a good thing. Also watch for smoke coming out the tailpipe after the car is hot - don't confuse steam in the early morning's cool air with smoke.

Stop driving car right away. Do not start. Check the oil level sounds like you are very low on oil. Chris J.C. Towing

No, just keep an eye on it to see it does not start staying on longer and longer. The oil pressure sensor my be a little off,and at worse the oil pump is a little weak. Just keep up on the oil changes.3500 miles max.

It probably is the converter. The check engine light has nothing to do with maintenance at all, nor does it really directly concern the engine. The check engine light comes on for emmission purposes. Such as converter, loose gas cap and all kinds of sensors.
