Question about 2006 Dodge Caravan

1 Answer

My mother's 2006 Dodge Caravan hesitates or sputters when you give it gas & sounds like the engine is going to die. We have tried gas treatments & switched gas stations, but the problem hasn't improved. Suggestions?

2006 dodge grand caravan engine sputter after shut off

I'd strongly suggest checking your spark plugs, their cables, the distributor and your ignition, because this could be an electrical problem. Given, though, that you're working in a really tight engine bay in Dodge Caravans made after 2002, especially those with the V6 engine, I'd buy the Haynes manual first. They're around $25 at most, AutoZone, Advance Auto Parts or even Barnes & Noble should have it, (or you can order one even cheaper from,) and it has things like troubleshooting tables for your specific engine. If you have the straight-four, I'd be inclined to check your spark plugs first, but if it's a V6, it could also be time to replace the solenoid at the ignition, which will mean partially disassembling your steering column. The manual will help you a lot, not just with this, but with anything else that could go wrong on your van, plus it'll help you tune it for the best gas mileage. I took my Mom's '05 Caravan up a whole two miles-per-gallon with the tips in the manual, so it pays for itself. Good luck!
