1993 cadillac deville: caliper problem

If there is pressure build up in brake lines would that not lock out all brakes? My problem is with the RH front caliper only. How would I release the pressure from a single line? I bleed it but it bleeds slow. The master cylinder in this auto looks to be two, one to puit in fluid and a second one down by the radiator?

Sorry for delay, Unsure of clasped hose? Problem is I step on brake and stop but the RH side caliper does not release pressure and stays locked. Replaced caliper because I thought it was a bad one. Within 10 mile drive it locked again. Wheel heats up and smokes. Will not release. Piston seems to be pushed out, rubber seal is also pushed out on one side. Pads are new and new style metal pads? Autozone. Please explain clasped brake hose as this is probably my problem? Thanks, mike in NH

On a 1993 Deville I believe that GM installed 2 seperate brake lines from LH and RH leading from the calipers so that if one went out at least you had stopping power in the other caliper. this was done as a safety feature because of past fatalities from previous accidents.

no diagram need to bolts on the back side hole the caliper lossening both of these slide bolts out you will need a 6 inch c clamp and a 3/8 allen wrench, to take bolts out then be for removing the brake pads match up each pad, then take the c clamp and old brake pad a press in the caliper piston back repeat this process on replaceing the caliper and new pads. good luck.

Brake fluid is leaking from what appears to be some type of small (index finger size) filter in the brake line under the drivers side passenger door. I've never heard of a filter in the brake line,...

i think what your referring to is a proportioning valve that regulates the pressure to the brake that the line goes to,this helps regulate brake pressure to all the wheels so they are the same during braking so there is no wheel lock up while the other wheels don`t lock up.this is a common place for the fluid to leak out when the car gets old enough due to environmental conditions such as winter driving, corrosion, wet weather (lots of rain),salt conditions(living near salt water),it will have to be replaced and the brake lines should be checked for condition as they may need replacing as well.

Drivers side front brake pads sticking, smoking bled allready no help

Sounds like you need new calipers and or the rubber portion of the brake line that goes from the steel brake line to the caliper. This part of the brake line (rubber part) can colapse inside acting as if there is a one way valve in the line keeping pressure on the caliper piston as if the brakes are applied.

It also sounds like a more likely problem is a seized caliper on the left side. If a caliper seizes, the braking system transfers the pedal pressure to the other caliper thus, the working caliper locks up. Pull both front wheels and look carefully at the wear on the pads. Both wheels should have the same amount of wear. If one side is worn more than the other, the side with the least wear is seized and needs to be changed.
Never heard of a hydraulic repostioning valve, but maybe with ABS there is one. I do know of a proportioning valve which apportions brake pressure front to back and also blocks braking to front or back in the event of brake line failure. Maybe see which he is talking about, should be able to explain the difference. Hope this helps.

Left front brake caliper hanging up on 1991 Cadillac Deville.

Flex line at caliper (hose) will cause that as well, even if it looks good from outside, they tend to collapse inside & restrict flow causing caliper to hang up.
