Question about 1993 Cadillac DeVille

RH caliper keeps locking out: 1993 Cadillac Deville

Changed the caliper, bleed brakes and still have the same problem. RH caliper locks out. Compress ok will not release? Thought it could be the shoe twisting and jamming on the housing, ground down a little, no change. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks
Mike from NH

Check to see if there may be some pressure buillt up in the brake lines and also could be having a problem with your master brake cylinder too.

Cadillac deville 94 my left back brake is locking up will not let me go in reverse any ideas

Try to release pressure from the caliper via bleeder screw if that doesn't work see if you can compress caliper with c clamp, if you can't remove hose and try to compress the caliper if that doesnt work replace the caliper. If you can compress the caliper with the hose removed replace the hose.

Cant remove rear brake pads on 1996 cadillac deville

Only the rust lip on rotor holding the caliper on

Sand off some of the outside rotor step, you can
easily get to

Can pull caliper to you, to compress the piston for
pad clearance

Can open bleeder to make it easier, have to bleed
system every 2 years on all cars anyway.

Rear brake calipers 1998 cadillac deville

Open the bleeder to compress caliper piston

If you use a c-clamp, you will ruin the parking
brake in caliper

The piston gets turned or screwed in with the correct tool,
as you also push in

Piston will not return to origional position to allow space for new pads

youmust compress centre of caliper piston with C-Clamp vise -grips, or large channel-lock pliers. If this does not work then you must crack open the bleeder screw on the caliper and then squeeze the piston back with pliers. Once your brakes are installed you MUST bleed the brakes, to remove the air from the system. If your only doing the front brakes then bleed furthest wheel from master cylinder, and keep topping up fluid as you bleed...

How do I compress the disc brake caliper so i can fit it back in place to mount?

There's a small bleeder valve on each wheel's backing plate. Gently loosen the valve assembly using one hand, while compressing the caliper with the other. Re tighten the valve once the caliper assembly is fully compressed. Do not release the caliper assembly until you have re-tightened the bleeder valve - to do so will **** air into the brake line and require you to bleed the system.

I can't compress the caliper piston with a c-clamp. I opened the brake fluid master cylinder ( i think, no diagram given in manual and everything in german) How do I release this compression?

Did you try opening the bleeder screw on the caliper it self. If you still can't compress the piston back into the caliper after opening the bleeder screw you may have a caliper that is locking or locked up. Sometimes a big pair of channel locks and a lot of muscle can compress the caliper again. If not you may need to replace the calipers. Make sure to ask for rebuilt verses new. there is a huge price difference.

Changed calipers and now brake pedal sinks all the way to the floor. What do I do now? The car is a 1998 Cadillac Deville. Thanks!

After you changed the calipers did you pump the brake pedal til it came back up to normal? If not you have to do this to get the pistons back up against the pads. The pedal should come back up.Also did you bleed the brakes after you reinstalled the calipers. This also has to be done first.I should have mentioned this first before pumping the pedal.Sorry.So bleed the brakes first.

1993 cadillac deville: caliper problem

on a 1993 Deville I believe that GM installed 2 seperate brake lines from LH and RH leading from the calipers so that if one went out at least you had stopping power in the other caliper. this was done as a safety feature because of past fatalities from previous accidents.

I assume you need to know how to compress the piston into the brake caliper. With the caliper mounted on the spindle, open the bleed screw slightly then gently press against the brake pad to compress the piston. Close the bleed screw. Once you have the caliper removed from the vehicle, open the bleed screw and compress the piston the rest of the way using a piston compressor or channel-locks. Close the bleed screw when you are finished.
