Question about 1994 Lexus GS 300

3 Answers

Lexus SC300 95 Several tries before starting.

Requires 1 to 5 turns of the key before starting. ( Sometimes no problem) No click or starter engagement. Most of the time this happens when the car sits over night or for long periods of time. Car runs fine after starting.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Couldn't wait for input, so took car to dealer. High resistance in starter, they replaced for $470.00. Wish I had this note sooner, could have checked cable ends myself, might have been the cure.

    Thanks

Had the same problem. In my case, it was the battery cable ends that needed replacing. Car works fine now.

Have the charging system checked out. The battery, alternator, and starter. Also if all of this checks out you may have a battery draw(something draining the battery). If you use your car every day it will never show up.

You actually made the right call. A number of members on the Lexus Forum have had the same problem. In the vast majority of cases it has been the starter itself. I just bought one for my 1993 SC300 for exactly that reason.

Will not start, battery is new, it just clicks and nothing. turn it off, try again and nothing, try again and it starts

Try cleaning and tightening well the battery connections along with the battery wires to the solenoid and starter motor.

Bad connections and low voltage of 12 volts can result in this anomaly.

Describe your 1999 RX 300 Problem Sometimes I have to turn the key on and off several times before the engine will turn over. Sometimes the engine turns over normally.

this is usually a sign that the solenoid on your starter motor is malfunctioning. you may also want to check the ignition switch itself. sometimes the starter relay can cause this issue. make sure your battery terminals are clean and secure before spending any money.some auto parts stores can help you with starting and charging system diagnosis for free.

The problem is the starter solenoid. It will steadily get worse until it just won't start anymore. The solenoid has corrosion between the contacts. When you turn the key the contacts are not making connection. The corrosion will get a little worse each time you crank it.

Hi Thomas, sounds as if the starter motor is 'dragging' Basically that means either the bushes or brushes are worn or something else in the starter motor is causing the drag. I think the problem is in the unit giving the problem. Regards Johngee

Sounds as though when your battery died the engine imobiIiser locked down.
YOU MAY HAVE TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO A LEXUS DEALER AND HAVE THE MASTER KEY AND OTHERS REPROGRAMMED TO THE IGNITION...BUT
If you have your wallet key as well , try taking all to the airport. HOLD the card to the dash beside the ignition for at least 20 seconds, then try turning the key several times. I haven`t done an LS but the failsafe when a remote fails is to hold the key beside the ignition for at least 20 seconds ....
Also try the lock routine, but I think the issue is in dash..security needing to reboot to your key.
My understanding is that the lock routine re initialises the lock setstings when power is restored

92 Lexus LS400 only clicking noise when I turn key to start

There are a number of things that could cause that. Try turning the key to the on position and crossing the starter terminals with a screwdriver. If it starts you have a bad ignition. If it still just clicks your starter has seized up or your battery might be lacking the charge to do the job. Hope these help you.
