I have a engine code for a large vacuum leak and i dont know where to begin, also everytime i turn on my ac it sound like the compressor is making a loud sound and vibration that i can feel in the floor boards

Lol had this problem and it was because i didnt have the gas cap tight

Why do i lose power when ac is turned on


There are many possibilities, the A/C Compressor takes a fair amount of engine power to operate, and if the engine is in need of a tune up, or has other issues that have reduced overall operation, a change such as engaging the A/C will be noticeable. Check for vacuum leaks, filters, plugs, plug boots, you didn't say what engine, but a tuneup and filter changes might be a good place to begin.

try removing the gas cap , and put it back on, I know that sounds dumb, but its a sealed system and sometimes that will fix the problem,, you can have the cap checked at many parts supply stores, also,, Once he fixed the vacuum leak, did you ever have the codes cleared ? you can have that done free too at many places, you just have to check around your town to see who will do that for you , they can use the code checker to clear all codes,, then ask them to re check the codes again, it may be that your problem has already been repaired , Just not cleared in the computer

I have a 96 Tahoe and when i press the brake pedal i hear a hissing sound by the pedal and engine sometimes stalls, what could the problem be ?


That sounds like a brake booster problem. The brake booster runs on engine vacuum to help make the brake pedal easier to push and easier to stop the tahoe. When a booster develops an internal leak, you can hear the vacuum escaping through the leak when you step on the brake. The engine stalls because the vacuum leak in the brake booster also causes a large vacuum leak for the engine.

To verify that this is actually the problem, go outside the vehicle with the hood open. Find the large brake fluid reservoir attached to a large round metal black (usually) canister on the driver's side of the firewall. (back of the engine compartment.) There is a large black rubber hose pushed into the top of the black canister, which is the vacuum line attached to the brake booster. Pull the rubber hose out of the grommet on the booster and stick your finger over the hose. Have someone start the tahoe. You will feel a considerable amount of vacuum pulling at your finger, and if you take your finger off the hose, the engine will stall. Also have someone step on the brakes while your finger is over the vacuum hose. If the noise is gone then you know the problem is in the brake booster.
Don't forget to re-attach the vacuum line to the brake booster. Failure to do this will result in the engine running very rough (if at all) and the brakes will require excessive effort to try to stop the tahoe.

Everytime I turn on my ac the car starts to stall. What is the reason for that?


Can not even guess without seeing first hand

A possibility would be the compressor is starting
to seize or it is overcharged, if you just had that done.

No Mil Lamp or Wrench on the dash?
No other problems except with A/C on?

have the vehicle scanned for trouble codes most auto stores such as auto zone/advanced auto do it for free/ur heat and engine light might be connected the control panel uses cable--elect and vacuum connections to move and actuate dampers and switching between hot and ac

YOU CAN REMOVE BELT..THERE IS ALSO A TENSIONER PULLEY HERE THAT COULD HAVE A BAD BEARING AS WELL..BUT I WOULD REMOVE BELT JUST TO BE SURE..IT WILL NOT AFFECT THE OPERATION OF YOUR VEHICLE

A/C Compressor not kicking on


The power to run the compressor clutch coil goes from the battery, to the AC Clutch Relay, somewere in the engine compartment fuse box, then it goes to the positive side of the AC compressor clutch coil; goes thru the coil, activating the compressor, and then goes to complete the circuit through another switch (high pressure protection switch) in the back of the AC compressor and finally reaching negative or Ground.

Disconnect the AC compressor clutch connector and using a 12 V bulb with 2 wires (test lamp) check the following:

1.- connect 1 lamp wire to battery neg; with the other check both pins at connector with the AC in the RUN (AC and ignition switch on ) you should have power in one side.

2.- connect 1 lamp wire to battery positive and with the other check both pins at connector, lamp should light getting the ground from the clutch connector thru the high pressure compressor switch to ground.

On the other side what makes the relay close and let the power flow to the clutch works with the low pressure switch, (if the freon pressure is too low it opens and kills the ground to the relay coil and that kills the compressor), that low pressure switch is in the low pressure side of the freon tubing, the fat pipe that comes from inside the firewall into the accumulator/dryer, a big aluminum cylinder sitting on the right side of the engine compartment in GM cars.

To know if the low press switch is the cause you can unplug it and connect both legs with a paper clip for a minute or two, no more, you don't want to damage the compressor. anyway if jumping the switch makes the compressor come alive and kick in, you either have low freon pressure or a bad switch; it's time for the pressure gauges and check how the compressor is pumping and that is better left to a pro.

By the way you said that your system is a R-12 system, have you considered switching to R-134a the new "ozone friendly" freon? to do that you need to evacuate the system with a recycling machine and pull vacuum in your AC, if it holds the vacuum for a while, then you can be sure that there are not leaks and then dump 1.5 or 2 pound (check the labels in the engine compartment) of R-134a into your system. it will be a good idea to put some fluorescent leak detecting dye in the system to check for leaks, just in case..

HI. Here is a complete check list that will help you trouble shot thsi issue. You will find the problem in one or more of these areas stated below.

1. Check Drive Belts - The air conditioner utilizes a drive belt that supplies power to rotate the compressor, which is basically a refrigerant pump. If the belt fails the compressor has nothing to drive it, inspect and replace as needed to restore operation. If belt is intact proceed to the next step.

2. Check for Compressor Clutch Engagement - Turn the air conditioner to the "on" position and set controls to the coldest setting. Start the engine and allow to idle. Then open the hood and inspect the clutch at the front of the compressor, is it turning? "Engaged" if so, the system has enough refrigerant to activate. If the system is low on refrigerant it will not work properly. In this case an air conditioner recharge kit is needed to recharge the system. If the system is low on refrigerant it could cycle on and off, making a ticking noise. If the compressor clutch is not turning proceed to next step.

3. Inspect for Refrigerant Leaks - If the system has a large leak and no refrigerant remains it will not activate. First test system for a static pressure charge, with the engine off attach an ac gauge to the low side pressure port and check the state of charge. Depending on outside temperature there should be between 50 psi and 80 psi. (Cool and warm). A refrigerant leak detector is needed to inspect for leak, but if you do not have a leak detector there is an alternative method. The air conditioner system is designed to run with oil suspended in the refrigerant to lubricate the system. Check for oily residue outside the system by inspecting all hoses, compressor, condenser, evaporator or receiver drier and replace any component that has failed.

4. Inspect Fuses - Check under dash panel and under hood power distribution center. Replace failed fuses as needed, recheck system. If the new fuse fails when reinstalled a short circuit is present and requires diagnosing with a wiring schematic, follow circuits to locate short, repair as needed and recheck system.

5. Check Temperature Control Vents - The vents inside your car are controlled by a cable, electrical servo or vacuum servo. If the temperature blend door is not functioning properly it will cause warm air from the heater to exit the vents. To check this start the car and allow the engine idle, next turn the blower motor speed on low, switch the temperature control from warm to cold while your ear is close to the vents. You should hear the door move inside the heater box as it swings from open to close. If not, insect for a vacuum leak or a shorted motor in the servo, repair the leak or replace the servo motor...

When starting the car the AC Compressor wont come on right away
