All lights work, except the brake lights. the cyclpos lite works fine checked all fuses and they too are fine.

I assume you have changed the bulbs - not uncommon for them to both be bad.
Check in the trunk behind the liner and see if the wiring harness is damaged in any way.

I have a 97 328i. currently the brakes lights are not working, so I changed the brake light switch and that didn't do it then I cleaned the bulb connections and still no dice. I'm going to check fuses now...

Pretty much the fuses. BMW runs "home runs" to each light and has a fuse to protect it. On the E36 models there was a problem with the wire harness where it comes into the truck. The harness gets work and may cause a short. I would inspect the harness in the trunk area as well as taking care of the fuses.

No brake lights

In the TRUNK there is a WIRING HARNESS that Leads To the REAR Lights, and In this Harness are the Wires for ALL Lights Including BRAKE LIGHTS, I Have Seen The PLUG that is In the Trunk Get Corroded and Cause Failure of Lights. Be them Brakes,Tail Lights Reverse Lights they are ALL In this Harness, Sometimes One can Simply UNPLUG and PLUG it Back in And this Fixes it Sometimes you must CLEAN With SPRAY ELECTRICAL Parts CLEANER. The Light in Window is Sometimes Sent to the Rear by Way of Different Harness, I Do KNOW that this Almost Has to be in the Trunk. Hope this Helps you!!!

My Brake lights don't work

2004 Rx8 kept blowing 15amp brake light fuse. Solution: wire going to rear lights was worn and frayed where it feeds through the left trunk lip on left side of trunk. This can be seen when you open the trunk lid. The wire routes by the trunk lid hinge. If the support connectors come loose, the wires are crunched by the hinge or lid. Re-splice, insulate, zip-tie, replace fuse and replace any blown bulbs.

I have a lexus ls400 and my tail lights don't come on. They work when I press the brakes. Is it a fuse or something? I already replaced the bulbs.

  1. I don't have the Year of Your Vehicle Owners Manual will tell You where Fuses are Located, if not I have Resources to Find it for you, need year of Vehicle.

Hi I figure You Need to Know That When you press the Brake Pedal Those are the BRAKE LIGHTS that Come on and are A Totally Different Circuit.

Now Off the Cuff I Think its Possible you have, 1 of 2 Causes for this After ruling Out Bad FUSE

  • Headlight switch is Bad because there is a park light lead for Front and another for the Rear Coming out or the Switch.CHECK THIS "AFTER" Rueling OUT Fuse and Cause below.
  • Is A Bad GROUND Connection in the Trunk that Runs From A Connector or Screwed to the Steal of trunk So Fallow the Light Harness FROM Tail Lamps Towards front of trunk Look for A Connector or Ground to BODY in Trunk see if it is Corroded if so Repair With New Eye Connector and Clean to BARE Metal Where its Mounted. IF YOU Find a Harness CONNECTOR Unplug it and inspect it for Corrosion if it is Clean With Electrical Spray Cleaner After this you may need to Plug & unplug a number of time to get a Good Clean Contact then Spray them out again. Plug em together check , If Harness Plugs Were Corroded and still don't work after this Plug is UNREPAIRABLE and must be replaced.
  • I truly Hope this info is of value to you and it Gives you Tail Lights as THATS A TICKIC And I Love Helping folks out.
  • Have A good Day, Rejakwilson

No brake lights, fuses keep blowing and wont shift out of park

I would look for a wiring short in the trunk at the taillamp area, or, inspect the sockets for the taillamp bulbs for corrosion. In any case, you have a short circuit in the trunk area, also check the wire that comes from the body & goes up the trunk hinge on the driver side; that wire may be chafed, and it may be shorting out. Hope this helps; please get back to me if you need any further assistance.
