Question about 1997 GMC Jimmy

1 Answer

1996 GMC Jimmy 4 Wheel Drive 4.3 L engine. We are having trouble finding the Oil Pressure Switch to replace it. We are getting mixed messages from different sites as to where it lives in the engine. We need to replace it and have a new one ready to put in.

The oil pressure switch is located on the passenger side of the engine block for the 4 cylinder. On the V6 it is near the distributor at the top rear of the engine. This may be why you are having trouble finding it, since it is located in different spots depending on the engine. Let me know how this turns out.

A haynes or Chilton manual should have the diagram or call a chevy dealer. They should have the diagram in the parts department and you should be able to get a copy.

WHERE IS THE CAMSHAFT SENSOR LOCATED AND WHERE IS THE OIL PRESSURE SENSOR LOCATED. DIFFERENT SITES ARE TELLING ME THAT THEY BOTH ARE EITHER BEHIND THE DISTRIBUTOR OR IN FRONT BY THE OIL FILTER

Camshaft position sensor is on the front engine cover at the bottom near the crankshaft. Oil pressure sensor/switch is at the back of the engine below and to the left side of the distributor.

Can a 2 wheel drive oil filter for a gmc jimmy work on a 4 wheel drive gmc jimmy?

I would use recommended filter pressure could be different and could possibly cause an issue not to mention filter media area coverage imo.

P0700 means EATX Controller DTC Present. That means that there is an internal fault inside of the transmission control module, so you'll need a new module.

Sounds like your front axle is trying to engage but does not engage fully.check your vacuum going to the t-case switch and then if that is ok check your vacuum at the front axle actuator. It is located under the battery tray.

1996 GMC Jimmy manual - need help with 4 wheel drive - stuck in 4 wheel low and can't get out

Try to place the vehicle in park, then reverse, move the vehicle a few feet in reverse, then switch to neutral but NOT DRIVE. Attempt to take it out of low again and then go to drive. This is the method I had to use occassionally when my vehicles would get stuck in low.

Rhythmic thud that increases and decreases with speed. I replaced wheell bearings and seals the differential looks ok, real clean. should the axle have any play up and down?

On a 1996 GMC Jimmy 4 wheel drive
Why is it reluctant to coming out of 4 wheel drive? Switch must be working when activated, you can hear it clicking but it won't release into 2 wheel drive, even when backing up and turning the wheels!
