Question about Lincoln Town Car

1 Answer

For about two years now it would not start sometimes and then the next few months it would start regularly. Now when it does it, I have found that either will srart it. I have left it at the dealership for weeks and it will never do it while it is there.

What about the fuel, was it drained and the system flushed. Gas turns to goop after this long and will barely burn.

When i turn on the ac or heater the air flow is not strong it like the air flopper door its not opening

Could be anything from a blown fuse to something clogging up your vents. In the winter small animals can sometimes find their way inside your vents and around your engine trying to get warm. A few years I found a dead family of mice inside my vents in an old toyota corolla. I figured they mustve gone in there for the warmth after it'd be turned off, then the heat may've killed them the next time it was started up.

Depending on the year, anything over about 1998 has whats called a 'central convenience module' that controls the windows, locks, sunroof, alarm, etc. It sounds like the one in your car is faulty. Its possible that the bad alternator caused some sort of power spike that has semi-fried the module, but not completely. They can be had used for < $100 generally.

2007 Vue hybrid. 12-volt battery dead? No electric key opening, lights, starting, etc. Can I try to trickle charge it? We;ve been away a week, but it has been sitting in a garage above 50 degrees.

If the battery is completely dead a trickle charge won't do much. These are designed to keep a good battery good. You need a regular battery charger set to 10 amps for a couple hours then 2 amps overnight. Be aware that sometimes if your battery has been completely killed it may not work for long, that is your car will start but within a few days or hours it will leave you stranded. You'll know because it will drag when you try to start it. Sometimes you get lucky and it works great for years.

Next time do use a trickle charger! Also if the charge you use is automatic then you can leave it hooked up in 2 amp mode when you are gone. Good luck!

I've had the exact same problem, it is most likely the starter. Just to be sure I'll tell you what mine did (same model and year) started to act like the battery was going bad, then sometimes would start just fine. But progressively got worse, turning over slower than before until finally it would just click. After pulling the starter I found that the bushing on the armature was missing, this was a 9 month old starter. Replaced with another new and it works just fine.
