SOURCE: Clutch will not release

remove the gearbox to replace the clutch.this will teach you not to hold it on hills on the clutch but to put handbrake on and neutral.also the same at traffic lights and no boy racer flying starts where accelerator is floored and clutch ridden slowly to get most power to wheels, still its not difficult to change and clutches not that expensive if you do it yourself, garage price around 800 euros

SOURCE: Clutch won't release on 92 Nissan P/U. Changed

If the vehicle has been standing for some time (6 months or more) without use, the clutch plate facings may be 'stuck' to the flywheel and pressure plate surface.
To check/clear this problem:-
(with the engine not running!)
hold clutch pedal down - then from under vehicle, find an opening in the clutch bellhousing (such as a water drain slot) where you can see/access the edge of the clutch plate (sandwiched between the pressure plate and flywheel).
Use a screwdriver blade (or similar tool) to prise clutch plate free from flywheel face (only small movement is required).
If the above is not the cause of your problem, 1) the clutch throwout mechanism should be examined for problems,
2) the pressure plate is faulty- may need to be replaced.

SOURCE: clutch does not slip but

Since your clutch is operated by hydraulic pressure, there is no adjustment. If pushing in the clutch pedal doesn't release the clutch, then the most common cause is either air in the system or the master or slave has failed. If the clutch is the original factory one then it is possible that the clutch itself has worn.

SOURCE: New clutch master cylinder new

Hi,
You need to check that you are actually getting the full length of stroke from the master cylinder.
If you are then you still a captive air pocket in the master cylinder and the only way to get rid of it is to vacum bleed the system from the master cylinder to the slave cylinder.
Check these and let me know, I can give you further information.
Thanks
Jason

SOURCE: Freelander td4 2004, clutch pedal at rest position is too low, when you press the clutch in you don't get full travel and gears are stiff to engage.

You have a leaking master or slave hydraulic clutch cylinder. I recommend you replace both

The Clutch disc and Release Bearing for the TD4-Freelander, were replaced recently. The Pressure Plate was still in a good condition.Gears difficult to engage. Please advise.Tks.John.

Most likely still has air in hydraulic clutch slave system. Many transmisions will have dificulty shifting if clutch doesn't full disengage. If air is in system it won't allow full disengage thus difficulty in shifting even possible grinding gears

I can't get my car into gear.

Sometimes the rod on the slave cylinder by the transmission is adjustable, and you can get more travel. Have somebody pump the clutch pedal while you watch the slave cylinder rod moving.

Why do I have to bleed the clutch every week no fluid lose

Air is replacing the fluid, so seeming as if there is no fluid loss. It is escaping someplace not obvious, such as inside the bell housing along the actuator rod.

If you needed a new clutch in the first place, it would be a good investment to put in an overhaul kit on both master and slave cylinder, or, if you find corrosion, replace both.

Clutch pedal sticks coming back up when released quickly

You need to inspect the feed line if the return line is squezed or kinked in any place it will impede return and the cylinder will seem stuck. If the lines are servicable remove the cylinder and bench test and bleed. it might be a burr left in the cylinder. Also check travel of the pedal without the system in place. Finally When I replace one of these units I have to bleed it out of the vehicle with another person holding the slave cylinder because there is no bleed screw on the slave cylinder. If you removed the little brass screw you broke it. I find there is no way to get out all the air unless the slave cylinder is held verticle with consant pressure applied to the throw arm. Then when bled reinsert into vehicle.

I have over 2" of clutch pedal free travel in my 88 chevy 3/4 ton. I have tried bleeding the slave cylinder several differant ways but this doesnt change the free travel distance. what am i overlooking?

You could have a weak slave cylinder, or the fingers on the pressure plate may be worn out. If this is the original clutch I would probably say that is about worn out and the clutch fork is at the end of it's travel and can not be adjust out any further.
On some slave cylinder end you can find that the end of the slave rod had a adjustment ball that can be screwed out to help decrease free play. You might look and see if your slave has an adjustable rod, if not you are going to likely going to have to replace either the slave or the clutch.

The problem is on your master and clutch slave cylinders. You said were dry and put clutch fluid. Wont do the proper job for clutch work as the inside rubber seals are not strong enough to make the pressure needed to release the clutch.

1998 freelander

First Top up the fluid for the hydraulic clutch. This reservoir should be on the fire wall beside the brake master cylinder.

The Clutch slave cylinder is located on the side of the bell housing under the car. You can follow the hose or line from the mater cylinder to find it. There is a bleeder on the end of this cylinder. Open the bleeder at least a few turns and have someone watch the fluid in the master cylinder and just let the fluid run out until you get no air. If it will not self bleed as described above, have someone pump the clutch pedal to the floor and hold it there. Open the bleeder at the slave Cylinder until no more fluid or air comes out and close the bleeder. Tell the person holding the clutch down to slowly release the pedal, or pull it up from the floor. again, slowly. Repeat this process until you have no more air being expelled. Do not let the fluid level of the master cylinder drop below minimum. Note Brake fluid used in this hydraulic system will remove paint. Be careful.

Good Luck
