Question about 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee
It sounds like an intermitent problem caused by a fuel pump that is overheating . one indicator of this is if the symptom occurs when the fuel level in the tank is 1/4 or lower, the fuel in the tank keeps the pump cool. The only way to diagnose this problem is to perform the appropriate test at the time the failure occurs. You must check the presence of fuel pressure at the fuel rail schrader valve, if 30 - 40 psi of pressure is present at the time of failure your fuel pump is OK if not proceed to listen for the momentary fuel pump hum near the gas tank as an assistant turns the key on the pump should come on for about a few seconds then shut off as the fuel presure in the line reaches 40 psi, if fuel pressure is ok if the pump appears to be working and there is a pressure issue replace the pressure regulator if problem persists proceed to pull out a spark plug then plug it into the wire as you are holding it with a insulated pair of pliers and ground it out and then have an assistant turn over the motor to check for the presence of spark, if no spark replace the ignition module. Ignition modules often have intermittent failures that are very hard to diagnose.

Was the engine control computer (known as a PCM) tested for trouble codes? when it stalls does it loose fuel pressure or spark, this is very important info if I am to help, I do however suspect you have a spark issue and with most loss of ignition spark parts failures there should be a trouble code, the most common failure is the Crankshaft Position sensor..

Do you think it may be occurring more in hotter weather, and/or when fuel level in tank is below 1/2 full?
More at morning, mid day,or late afternoon? Sorry to answer you with questions but that's part of diagnosing problem, and believe it or not, there is a method to my madness by asking these questions.
