Question about 1999 Chevrolet Lumina

Car won't turn over

When you turn the key, the car would only make one single clicking noise. I was told the starter was bad. Replaced the starter and now there is no noise at all when you turn the key. Everything else comes on in the car...the battery is fully charged. What's wrong?

Check for battery voltage getting to solenoid & to terminal on start mode, if none, look for blown 50 amp fuse under hood, and relay.

Sounds like you have a bad ground or a bad safety neutral switch if it's automatic put the brake on put in neutral and try starting if nothing try wiggling the shifter a little see if it try’s. If nothing then the safety neutral switch on the side of transmission may be bad. If it's a stick the safety natural switch may be bad and it's on the clutch pedal and you have to jump the two wires on the switch then try it out of gear of course and if that don't work you need a test light and somebody that can get under the car and ground the test light and touch the solenoid wire and turn the key to start position if the light comes on you have a bad starter. Or a bad ground, I don’t remember if that year had safety fuse or not it would be on the firewall so you would need someone who could check it for you, I hope this helps. if you need more instructions and you have an able bodied person just post here for more info.

You need a new starter solenoid. It is essentially a heavy duty remote switch that is activated by your ignition key switch. The solenoids get stuck or don't conduct well after 6 to10 years.

Santa fe 2007 wont start makes a single click noise

May be ab bad starter solenoid, or corroded/loose connection at starter, or (ground). Could also be a bad ignition switch. Start from the load; the starter. Test for 12V at starter, OK. Connect short wire from starter and touch sylenoid connection..

My car runs fine for days then i'll park somewhere and go to turn it back on and it won't start at all. It won't turn over or anything.

CHECK BATTERY CONNECTIONS, STARTER CONNECTIONS, WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN IT DOESN'T START, TO GET IT GOING AGAIN, DO YOU GET A JUMP START IF SO CHECK CONNECTIONS.

Ford contour wont start

You need answer some questions first to rule some things out.
Is the starter making a noise when you turn the key or is it just clicking? If the lights light, but the starter makes absolutely no noise, then the power cable to the starter is bad or contacts are corroded. If you hear a click every time you turn the key but that is all, then the starter is bad and needs replace. Once it is removed, most parts stores can test it for you. If you can hear the starter spinning but its going real fast then again the starter is bad. If the starter is working properly (like on a really cold day when it doesn't start right away) but the car still won't start, then the starter is fine and your problem is either in the ignition or the fuel system. You may be able to narrow it down if you can read the codes, otherwise it needs a mechanic and you need to decide what is the car worth to you.

Car won't start. New battery installed recently. Only clicks when trying to start.

one single click any time you turn the key usually indicates a bad solenoid on the starter. A new starter will typical get you going.

A series of rapid clicks when you try to start usually indicates a weak battery. There could also be a bad connection at the terminals on the battery or even a poor connection at the starter.

If you get a single click and everything goes dead for a couple of seconds than you definitely have a bad connection at the battery.

Let me know what you find or if you have any questions.

Car won't start . Clicking noise wen key is turned

It's your starter. Find location of your starter. By the flywheel. Then. Bang on it . Your car will start. You still need to replace the starter.

My car has trouble starting, Does make that clicking noise and I charged the battery. Seems like the cylinoid When I tap on it. after a bit, it starts. ????

A single click each time you turn the key to the crank position means starter, or solenoid. multiple clicks indicates low battery, or bad connection. I'm betting on the starter/solenoid since it will start when persuaded with impacts.

2004 Mini Cooper automatic.Car won't turn over. Battery indicating 14 volts using multi-meter. I get a single click when I turn the key, then nothing. I suspect bad solenoid. Not sure how to test/check...

if the clicking noise is from the starter, you can tap the starter while someone tries to start the car.if it turns over and starts then the starter motor will need to be replaced.if you can get to the starter, using the multi-meter you can check to make sure the solenoid is getting battery voltage at the wire that gets voltage when the key is turned.if you do and you have battery voltage at the larger wire on the starter then this will also indicate the stater motor has a bad spot in it and will have to be replaced.the clicking noise is usually an indication that the solenoid is working passing the voltage to the starter armature but the starter is drawing too much amperage to turn the motor over.either way its recommended to replace the complete unit as if the solenoid is bad the motor itself will usually go bad shortly after.

97 Ford Escort 2.0 - Starting issues. It has a

regardless if its a factory or aftermarket alarm, the single click sound is an indication that the starter solenoid is failing

with the solenoid mounted on the starter, about the only thing the shop could have did wrong is not clean off the surfaces where the start mounts and that is assuming you have oil leaks under the vehicle and/or they even removed the starter.

honestly, it just sounds like bad luck with a failing starter solenoid
