Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) checking: 1. Requirements for check: 1.1. Vehicle standing on level surface. 1.2. Transmission must not be in fail-safe mode. 1.3. Shift lever in "P" position, parking brake applied. 1.4. Engine idling. 1.5. Air Conditioner and heater OFF. 1.6. ATF temperature must not exceed 104 Fahrenheit degree (40 Celsius degree) at start of test. 1.7. Automatic gearbox oil capacity: 2,5 liter. Only ATF with VW designation may be used. If bulbs are definetly ok you can look behind trim on the left side in the boot, which covers the space between the boot floor and the window, you are looking for a green/red wire in a connector. this is the power cable which supplies both rear side mounted brake lights. You should check for voltage at this wire when pedal depressed. If no voltage you would need to trace this back to where the wire is joined in the loom as it feeds off the wire which supplies the high mounted brake light and you have stated that this works. Would still double check bulbs first though if you did'nt replace them. Hope this helps.
hi the rear high level brake warning light in rear screen ? works with the other two brake lights at same time when you press brake pedal with ignition on ? so may i suggest you check the other brake lights are working ? if not ? check these bulbs? reason being that from the symptoms you describe that high level light is staying on ? it would suggest that the brake light switch at the pedal is not operating ie not putting brake lights off when pedal is off and would suspect the brake lights have been on for some time and burned bulbs out due to the brakelight element in bulbs are high wattage if you check on what i have suggested? and is the case ? come back and will advise you how to adjust brake switch easy diy hope this helps? best wishes from the uk
sounds like the brake light switch on brake pedal has gone bad one way to check is find the switch it will have two wires pluged into the switch they can be dificult to get to they are located some where down low to the floor board on back of pedal find it and unplug the conector with a peice of wire or paper clip make a jumper between the two wires dont worry 12volts will not shock you but once jumper wire has been installed between the wires dont let it touch any metal parts or it will short out and blow fuse hope this helps
IF you have NO brake light in the rear and NO HIGH mount stop light. You may have a BAD Brake light switch this located at the top of the brake pedal under the dash. Replace switch and that should solve your problem. Good luck and thanks for using FIX YA
