Grand scenic 1.6 spluttering when hot

Hi

We have a 55 plate 1.6 renault grand scenic, and in the last few weeks, we have noticed that when the engine is hot, or weather is hot, the engine struggles, and starts to splutter, as if it is misfiring, and then stalls. sometimes the fault Battery charge fault appears on the display. Can you advise

Many thanks for the solution, if it was overheating would the display not show it was. If I got the car checked via a diagnostic, would this show up on that??? I have heard that renault are expensive to repair so I am a bit worried about the cost.
Thanks again for any more advice.

The most common causes of misfiring on Renault petrol engines are either duff ignition coils or duff TDC sensors. It may be worth removing the spark plugs and comparing their colour. If the engine is misfiring it will be putting unburnt fuel into the exhaust therefore causing the warning light to illuminate. Also if driven for any length of time you run the risk of damaging the CAT. I strongly suspect your engine will have individual ignition coils - each mounted on top of each spark plug and you wil need to disconnect the wiring connector on each and then remove their retaining bolt. Some have 10mm hex heads whilst others have Torx heads.
Maybe you will need a service manual to fix by yourself or go to a workshop. If you´re unable to find a service manual, ask http://manualfox.com to get it for you. They were always helpful to me.

Hi,
There are two issues:
1st is the heating problem.
For this check the following parts

1.Water pump : When a water pump is faulty or not functioning properly, the flow of water throughout a car's engine is disrupted. This can lead to inadequate cooling and heat transfer within the engine, and this can lead to overheating.
2.Thermostat: is a heat-sensitive valve located on the top of the engine helps in regulating the flow of water into and out of engine.A faulty thermostat is a major cause of an engine overheating and can lead to costly repairs.
3.Radiator: A faulty radiator can either leak, causing a low water level, or it can lose its ability to cool water circulating through it. Either case can cause engine overheating.

2nd is with the battery fault display. For this the alternator need to be checked.

If you need any further assistance kindly let me know.
Thanks
Smith.

I have a 55 plate grand scenic 1.6. I have had mant problems with it. The coils have already been replaced and i have a constant problem with it not starting. I've never had such an unreliable car. When...

Coils are a common problem, sorry to say.
There are a few potential things to replace. But its expensive guess work.
I would bite the bullet and visit a Renault dealer.
It could be:
1. TDC sensor. TDC stands for Top Dead Centre. If the igition does not get a signal from this sensor it does not know when to ignite the fuel.
2. Sometimes the temp sensor that tells the ignition how warm the engine is can fail. If the ignition gets a false reading or no info it will assume a set value. This can make the car try to start as its got the "Choke on" and if the engine is semi warm it will not allways start first time.
3. There are loads of other sensors that can fail and cause it not to start.

As you say it will do this at any time, is it its mainly when the engine is hot or warm?

When the car is working does it drive ok, or does it have a lack of power?

Let me know.

Renault grand scenic 1.6 55 plate . no dashboard lights just blank

I had the same problem go to ECUTESTING.COM the cluster is very simple to remove. Carefully unclip/prise the direct surrounding from around the cluster and then unplug the wiring (2 plugs on the front) now unscrew the 2 screws on each end and gentle remove the digial cluster unit. ABOUT A 10-15MINS JOB. All this can be done sitting in your drivers set.Send it to the above cost about £195 and they'll send it back with a 2yr warrenty. Dealer charges in the region of £400.
