Where is the four wheel module located on a 2001 f350 7.3 l lariat 4x4 nothing on the four wheel drive works and I checked all the fuses and are all fine

Principles of Operation
Transfer Case - Electronic Shift
The four-wheel drive, electronic shift-on-the-fly feature electrically shifts the vehicle transfer case between 2WD, 4X4 HIGH, and 4X4 LOW. The system mode is selected by the operator through the mode select switch (MSS) on the instrument panel. The operator is informed which mode the system is in by two instrument cluster indicators, one for 4X4 HIGH which is 4X4, and one for 4X4 LOW which is LOW RANGE (in 4X4 LOW both the lamps are on). Shifts into 4X4 HIGH can be made at any speed. When shifting into 4X4 HIGH with the vehicle stationary, tooth blockage may occur, preventing shift completion. When the vehicle is driven above 8 km/h (5mph) the shift will complete. When shifting in or out of 4X4 LOW, the generic electronic module (GEM) requires that the vehicle speed be less than 5 km/h (3 mph), the brake pedal be applied, and the transmission in NEUTRAL (automatic transmission) or the clutch pedal be depressed (manual transmission). (The digital transmission range [TR] sensor informs the GEM when the automatic transmission is in the NEUTRAL range position.)
The gearmotor encoder assembly is mounted externally on the transfer case. It drives a rotary cam which moves the mode fork and the range fork within the transfer case between the 4X4 HIGH, 4X4 LOW, and 2WD range positions.
The GEM uses two relays to control the gearmotor encoder assembly shift between 4X4 HIGH, 4X4 LOW, and 2WD modes. The GEM controls the pulse vacuum hublock (PVH) solenoid which supplies engagement and disengagement vacuum to control the hublocks.
The GEM accomplishes shifts by interpreting inputs from:

  • mode select switch (MSS)
  • vehicle speed signal (transmitted from the ABS system)
  • gearmotor encoder plate position
  • brake pedal switch
  • digital transmission range (TR) sensor (automatic transmission)
  • clutch pedal position (CPP) switch (manual transmission)
  • ignition switch
Based on these inputs, the GEM controls the shifts into 2WD, 4X4 HIGH, or 4X4 LOW with the following outputs:
  • low to high relay (clockwise)
  • high to low relay (counterclockwise)
  • pulse vacuum hublock (PVH) solenoid
  • gearmotor encoder assembly
The electronic shift-on-the-fly (ESOF) system has a feature which allows the driver to override the vacuum operated hublocks. When the front hublocks are manually turned to the LOCK position, the hublocks are locked at all times, overriding the vacuum operated system. If the front hublocks are manually turned to the AUTO position, the hublocks can only be locked by turning the MSS to 4X4 HIGH or 4X4 LOW position.

Wher is fuse for 4 wheel drive on a 2005 ford half ton

Has a few fuse's that supply battery voltage to the four wheel drive control module . F2.33 15amp , F2.45 10amp , F2.19 10amp. Has a couple more also .your better off checking it out yourself . Free wiring diagrams here http://www.bbbind.com/free-tsb/ Enter vehicle info. year , make , model an engine size . Under system click on driveline / axle , then under subsystem four wheel drive system will pop in on it's own . Click the search button then the blue link. The four wheel drive switch is powered by the 4X4 control module. ( low voltage ) . There is a lot to these systems , computer controlled , Can also set code's in the 4X4 control module . If the fuse's are good hooking up a scan tool that can read code's in the 4X4 control module should be done . If it was my vehicle I would do that first . But ,then again I have a scan tool that can read code's in the 4X4 module. Auto zone , advance , pep boys etc... can not read these code's .

2003 Explorer sport trac no power to 4wd switch. I checked 1 fuse under hood and 1 under dash

Power for switch comes from four wheel drive control module , five volt reference voltage . The thing to with this would be hook up a scan tool that will communicate with all modules on the vehicle and see if the 4X4 control module is on line an talking. If not then check power and grounds to the control module . You would need a pin out of control module terminals . Fuse's F2.8 7.5 amp. ,F2.15 15amp , F2.16 7.5 amp , F2.2 7.5 amp , F2.25 7.5amp are all fuse's for 4x4 control module . All are located in the central junction box . If you pull the switch out and check b+ on the white with lite blue wire ,should have 5 volts . You can fine a wiring diagram at http://www.bbbind.com/free_tsb.html Checking for DTC'S would be my first place to start .

I have a 2001 F150 king ranch 4x4 that blows a fuse while selecting 4 wheel drive

What fuse blows ? The four wheel drive switch is a input to the GEM - generic electronic control module , low voltage ! There are a few different relays, a shift motor on the transfer case . There could be DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes stored in the GEM module . You can find free wiring diagrams at http://www.bbbind.com/free_tsb.html Do you know how to do basic automotive electrical testing ? When you turn the switch to engage the 4X4 , the GEM see's that input an then energizes a relay to engage the 4X4 . Knowing which fuse blows would cut down on the guess work !

My truck is stuck in four wheel drive

At the risk of going to the offensive, sometimes it's the simplest thing - you ARE putting it in neutral, at a stop, engine running, with the brake pedal pressed, when trying to shift out of 4wd, yes?

2) Check for blown fuse for 4x4 shift module

3)This sounds dumm, but worked on my wife 99. I took it to a school parking lot, put it in reverse, floored it and pulled on the lever and it popped out of 4x4

4) The shift motor is bad. Replace it.

Stuck in 4 wheel drive

A blinking service 4x4 light would indicate there are DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes set . Need a professional scanner to pull these codes , not autozone or advance etc.... How many buttons on the shift selector ? Four or three - this would tell me which transfer case it has an capabilities .
The NVG 263 transfer case features a three button shift control switch located on the instrument panel.
The NVG 236/246 transfer case features a 4 button shift control switch located on the instrument panel
Both systems have a electronic control module .

SERVICE 4WD Indicator
The SERVICE 4WD message is displayed on the driver information center and is an integral part of the cluster and cannot be serviced separately. This message is used to inform the driver of the vehicle of malfunctions within the automatic transfer case (ATC) system. The SERVICE 4WD message is controlled by the transfer case shift control module via a Class 2 message.

Upon seeing this message it is intended for the driver of the vehicle to take his vehicle to a qualified repair shop that has the knowledge an diagnostic equipment to trouble shoot the problem .
These systems can set many codes an without knowing which or if any are set at all you could end up replacing parts an still not fix the problem .

I have a 2001 Chevy siverado pickup and the 4x4 doesnt work, but the four high and four low indicatoer lights on dashwork,and flash for a moment and then go solid, but i have no four wheel drive.Jacked it...

you need to stop both front wheels from turning to see if 4 wd is working
just stopping one side means nothing as the diff action is operating and making the opposite wheel go faster

is it auto 4x4 ? cuz either your switch is broken or the wires that go to the transfer case is disconnected or it might be a blown fuse
