Question about 1994 Ford F150 Styleside Supercab
Horn works when I hit the panic button, but not when I try to beep from the steering column.
The clockspring is probably broken, or the contact or wires of the horn button assembly are damaged or malfunctonning, but i'd put my money on the clockspring, which is the spiraled coiled thingy around the steering column behind the steering wheel cover and/or airbag that keeps the current flowing from the swithes on the steering even while you turn the wheel. Hence the name clockspring. So on your year and model, if i'm not mistaken, the air bags were not necessarily stock on every model, so if you do not have airbags you can just go ahead and take the steering cover off, and if you do have airbags on you model, then you will need to start by disconnecting the negative wire on the battery to remove all possible grouns in the vehicule and prevent shorting the airbag mechanism, and prevent getting any body part in the way broken off by and exploding airbag. As for the cover on the steering itself, some models are just snapped on, but most model have at least 2 screws hidden on the backside of the steering wheel. And as for getting the clockspring off, again it differs depending on model. Most of the time you have 1 or 2 screws holding it in place, on some model it's more or less press fitted, and on some rare unlucky models, you need a special screwdriver to get the screws out, but as I said this particular screw type is pretty rare on the clockspring. And also don't forget to be careful with the wire attached to the clockspring, cause if you rip them out or damage them, you will be back at square one even with a new clockspring. Hope this helps.
