Question about Ford Expedition

1 Answer

I have a Ford Expedition 1999 Eddie Bauer. i have taken it to the Dealer several times cause it is missing. They put it on the computer and told me nothing is wrong. But it is still missing and using far to much gas on long trips (acts like it has no power) 5.4L engine. I put my finger into the tail pipe and it came out with black smoke looking residue on my finger. loog like engine is not burning the gas properly. So i went back to the Dealer and they tolk me that their computer shows nothing is wrong.

Hey there demoody,

Bring it to an auto parts store. Most will check the codes for nothing. Or....

If you're comfortable working under the hood, there are a few things you can easily check yourself. If you don't already have one, purchase a repair manual to use as a reference for your make and model.

Before you begin, make sure the engine is cool.

  • Check the plugs. Pull them one at a time. Check them for build up, burn out, oil or carbon residue.
  • Make sure the plug wires are in the correct order on the distributor.
  • You can purchase (cheaply) a spark checking device which is put between the plug and the wire. It lights up when sufficient voltage to fire the plug goes through it. Tedious, but effective.
Remember, be safe when working under the hood.

Try these things. Let me know what you find.

I Have a 1999 Ford Expedition(Eddie Bauer) and I cannot find out why The Rear Suspension Air bags wont inflate. The bags don't have any Leaks, I'm assuming the compressor is working because the front of...

I believe it has to b reset / retrained by dealer or mechanic who has ability to read what the vehicle is or isn't doing. If you don't hear the compressor running constantly, you most likely don't have a leak, basically it'll run long enough to level up the vehicle and you shouldn't hear it again. try and dissconnect the battery, for a minute or so try it again.

Location of Shift Solenoid in 1999 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer?

They are round "cans" with wires attached. You should have SSA, SSB, SSC, Torque converter and Pressure Control solenoids. They control pressures and have no mechanical linkage.

I have a miss.

Have you checked the spark plug wires?
They tend to cause this when conditions are right (or wrong), especially when heated up or cold and damp. If your mechanic checked it only when warm, not hot they might have overlooked the matter.
