Question about 1995 Oldsmobile Achieva

2 Answers

I have a 1995 achieva, it overheated and now the mechanics are telling me I have a blown head gasket. The air conditioner just stopped working prior to it overheating for no reason at all. The car was driven for 4 hours and then I pulled into a parking lot and it overheated and has not been operational for over a year. I replaced the battery with a new one and now it will not turn over at all. What options do I have? What is the problem with this model car? Previously, I had someone repair a leak on the passenger side and I constantly replace the heating coil. Is this car worth repairing? Help!

Air con packed up because the car was overheating and the ac rad is in front of the engine rad ,trade it in on plan new for a nice small nissan or ford fiesta .this vehicle isnt worth repairing ,its stood so long with head gaskets blown that water has seeped into bores and seized the pistons to the bores .Trade it in against a new car with the goverment incentive of cash back.

Overheating car

maybe you have a blown head gasket your leaking head gasket when ur car is cold open your radiator cap see if the coolant in it try to tap up coolant until the neck of your radiator then start your engine and observe the radiator neck if the collant puks it out if your coolant is pukking out meaning you have a leak or blown head gasket and thats the cuz of your overheating

possible blown engine , need to pull the oil dipstick see if the is like gunky yellow whitish color on it - then have a compression test done- probably warped or cracked heads or blown a head gasket maybe worse , dont drive it

Overheating, loss of coolant, reservoir not working

Sounds like to me your mechanic is on the right track by having the rad cap changed. If the coolant becomes low again in the near future and there is no visible fluid leak on outside of engine or on floor/ground then your problem is internal and possibly a head gasket.

either the thermostat is getting ready to fail or the temp sensor isnt working properlythese engines also leak fluid from rear side of head after getting hot so check that so may have air in system because of the blown head gasket

Somehow the coolant is getting into the exhaust system. Either by a blown head gasket, a cracked head or possibly a cracked block. If it's an aluminum head, that's probably it.

My 1997 honda accord is starting to get hot. My husband just changed the radiator. Just wondering what could be wrong?

Thermostat is clogging, water pump failure, air in cooling system, a leak in the hose. These are the obvious issues concerning overheating. Hopefully its not a blown head gasket. There is a 30 dollar diagnostic you can have run and the mechanic will tell you if its a blown head gasket. I should know. I have a bmw and i didnt get diagnostic and bam head gasket was way warped. Cost me 2200 for head gasket repair. This is what I recommend you do. Also you could run vehicle without thermostat and see what happens. if it dont over heat then it was thermostat.

1995 legacy 250t wagon - overheating

Two possiblities; a blown head gasket, or a freeze plug leaking. If possible take it to a trusted shop and have the pressure checked on the radiator, they can tell you if your radiator is stopped up, or the freeze plug is leaking, and if it's blowing back in the radiator when you remove the cap then it's a blown head gasket.
