Question about 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD

1 Answer

Grinding noise front end.

I have a grinding noise coming from the front passenger side. It is a 2003 2500HD Chevy crew cab 4x4. The noise is not coming from the hub. I took it to the dealership and the told me it may be the dust cover on the breaks. Pulled front brakes apart and nothing is rubbing on dust cover. The noise is loadest around 60 mph, makes no difference if applying breaks or not. Also seems to get better if I shift into 4 hi. Breaks are good, u joints good, diff fluid good, cv joints seem to be good. I also jacked front end up and manualy spun tires and no noise?

I did exactly that. No noise is coming from the cv joints. It also does not pop or mak any noise when I turn. Most cv joints that I have gone bad usually "pop" when turning. Can not find exact pin point of noise. But like I said it almost goes away when I shift into 4 HI on the freeway.

I say it's the CV joints. You have to jack up under the lower A-Arm, to take the spring pressure off of it, to check them.

(Use jack stands, and wheel chocks behind the rear tires. Emergency brake On. Work on a hard level surface. Be SAFE! Trucks can be replaced, YOU cannot!)

My front right end gets bumpy between 50-70mph. Also there's a grinding noise under the cab and is is bad when I let off the gas in 5th gear and start slowing down

year/make/model??? 2x4? 4X4?? You may have more than one problem. The bumpy problem sounds like a wheel balance issue. The grinding could be anything with limited info given

2006 dodge ram crew cab 4x4 Just had new pads and rotors on front end and still have a slight rubbing/grinding sound but only seems to be from driverside front.

If you start to hear it about 30 - 40MPH and the noise changes if you steer to the left or right than it may be worth checking the wheel bearing.

Grinding noise driver side front at low speed . have changed hub assembly goes away for a little while then comes back . can spin the hub and dont feel like bearing is bad. really getting to me

Did you recently swap tires from back to front. I had very annoying wheel bearing type noise and the tires were not noticeably worn (Bridgestones) but apparently some wear pattern was causing my noise. Swapped them back.

I have a 2003 4x4 super crew. It will not go into low or high and the light does not come on. There is no noises or grinding of any kind. Just will not go into 4 wheel drive.

the transfer case shift motor sometimes the contact plate is out of position as it can easily get off from its mounting. This is always the problem on 4x4 for ford cars.have your car diagnose using scanner

I have a ford f250 diesel 4x4 and the front axle is makeing a grinding noise any one know what that is

It sounds like you may have a wheel hub bearing going bad . Jack up front of truck and spin each tire and listen for any noise it should be quite and spinfree if you find it's bad you must replace the whole hub you can't just repair the bearing this is a common problem on the f250

Grinding in front end

If the sound changes as you turn side to side it is your wheel bearing (hub assy)
