Locks, Map Light(s) and alarm not working!

When I get into my car and turn it on it starts fine, but when I put it into gear the doors don't lock automatically and when I manually hit the door lock button the driver side lock pops back open. Also the Map Light(s) do not dim for about a minuet, which is much longer than before.
Also, when I try to lock the car with the clicker the car alarm will go off within 3-4 minuets of setting the locks, but the driver door is always unlocked, I assume it is popping open like when I am in the car, and the car thinks it is getting broke into and the alarm goes off.
Finally, after I got home and parked the car, closed the doors, ect, the dome light and both map lights would not go off. I manually turned off the dome light and with some fiddling (I really dont know how) the map lights went off.
Please help....

It sounds like you are having a problem with the ecm which is the electronic control module which is the BRAIN of your entire car. Also when this happens everything goes haywire as if the car is acting retarded because the ecm is not receiving the proper codes on how to perform and remember the ecm is a computer that could have corrosion or rust on the connection points. check this ok that might help.

1997 Jetta GL Alarm

First to turn off the alarm you simply put the key into the drivers door and turn it to unlock the door twice, this is the factory setting to turn off activated Volkswagen alarm. As for the power locks they are air activated, in the trunk near the latch there should be a small electric motor that drives a small air pump with air lines running to all your locks. If this electric motor as worn out your locks will not operate, simple fix replace the motor. I'd try a used one first from a scrap yard to make sure but always check to see if there is power to the motor (you will need another person with a test light to perform this job). Let me know if this works. Vdubs 4-ever !

Power locks not working right

Hey, this might work.....get in truck, close doors, put key in ignition in lock position.....hold down the door lock button on driver side door control and wait for the lock control to be displayed on the information screen(odometer read-out).....it should say like lock 1, lock 2, lock 3, lock 4.....or something, I always reset mine to LOCK 1, to do this hold the odometer reset button on dash for a sec or two til it changes settings, then release, repeat till you get to LOCK 1, then quickly press and release odometer reset button to exit program, this is the function to lock doors over 15 mph and when out of park and to unlock doors when returned to park......yours' might be set to another function number....try it out, let me know if this helps.........good luck!
