thanks for the solution, still got to try simple fix,,pump change is beyond my skill level unless I cut a hole in the trunk, why didn't you all put an access point instead of pulling tank?

ethanol caused pump rotor to stick. don't leave fuel in tank if you're storing very long. took pump apart and cleaned rotor. paint can opener works well. cheapskate..

The pump is located on the front side of the tank, held in by six bolts. gas lines disconnect at pump with a special tool $6..... might be able to leave wiring intact if your just replacing the pump unit and not the whole assembly module $150, new filter sock $24

Replace the fuel pump!

The cheeper way out will get you in trouble. The pump will not fix itself. You will need to replace the pump or have someone do it for you.

Disconnect battery, remove hoses, lines and connector from tank. Remove straps and drop tank. Remove retaining ring, remove pump assembly.

No need to remove tank, pump is in front side of tank behind rear end, held in by 6 bolts

I have replaced my fuel pump and fuel pump relay and the car(1988 Lincoln Town Car) ran fine for two months. Now it will not start. The fuel pump relay has 4.6 volts when the ignition is on, it is not...

Have to look at a wiring diagram to figure that out

At least I would.

Does the relay energize in your hand,
with batt & grd on coil & ohm meter on
it's contacts, to see if their burnt?

e.g. do you need 12 + volt for it to work

Your looking for a voltage drop ---maybe

Don't rule out the ignition switch it gets a lot of use

My explorer starts up, runs a few seconds and dies. what could be the problem?

Sounds fuel related, change the fuel filter if you haven't in the last 30K miles, if it is still doing it, have fuel pressure checked. If it still does the same thing it could be your fuel pump system. Check fuel pump relay, inertia switch (if applicable), fuses and lastly the actual fuel pump.

1993 lumina 3.1 engine. shuts down while driving, sometimes bucks at 50 m.p.h. checked plug at fuel pump harness and one pin had about 5 volts other 3 dead.swapped fuel pump relay and same thing.jumped...

the computer is what sends the signal to the fuel pump relay. Check the harness plug at the fuel pump again they tend to get loose. there is an updated replacement plug for this. also make sure the terminals on the fuel pump relay are clean and not corroded.

1994 buick park avenue . driving home and shut off

how did you jump the fuel pump relay, by bypassing the relay or by applying power to contact that closes the relay? If you bypassed the relay completely you need to b ench test the relay you can do this easily by using any 12v dc power source. If you tested the fuel pump relay by applying power to the relay and the pump run and developed pressure. I suspect a wiring or ground issue. Good luck

I have no power to the fuel pump unless I jump at the diagnosis under hood. I have 12 volts to the circuit opening relay and with the key turned forward I also have 12 volts to and the leg on the co relay....

fuel pump only runs for 3 seconds or when the engine is running. Cycle key with meter hooked up or ear on gastank.. Listen and watch. for a quick 3 seconds.. The spark your experiencing is most likely your touching a ground connection. If you have 3 seconds of power then you prabably need a fuel pump.

Yeah, The fuel pump can go bad . The normal warranty on the pump is 12 months or 12,000 miles. This is very rare . I would check if the fuel pump had a lifetime warranty.

I would also check the ignition switch, and all the fuses to make sure the fuel pump is the failure.

Good Luck
