The only plug that I am aware of is at the bottom of your rad.
SOURCE: water leak at back of block
we had the same problem on my 97 rodeo and thought the same thing but it so happens that there is a water tube that runs under the intake and has an o ring that over time gets hot and ends up dry rotting. which causes it to leak you wont be able to tell unless you remove the intake manifold and see. i had water filling up and running over the back of the motor which cause us to thing is was a freeze plug but in return it was a lot less work. though you might start here before you pull your tranny

which side of the engine? What size engine? If it is passenger side could be a head gasket, timing cover gasket or more likly a intake gasket

Is it coming from the top, Can you see? Did the car freeze or overheat lately? If not, it is not a freeze plug. It is a coolant line running to the rear of the engine, it has an O-ring gasket that has gone, It is real easy to fix, but you have to take the intake off to get to it. Buy the gasket kit, the seals/O-rings are off the shelf sizes, nothing special, and you will need a schematic of the engine so you can see where you are going. Check it out.
