Hi

This light is your engine management light which is coming on to indicate that the onboard computer has detected a fault in the engine. Often these faults are associated with faulty sensors or emissions problems. You will need to bring the car to a dealer to have it plugged in to a diagnostic scanner to have the fault codes read.

This will give an exact diagnoses as to where the fault lies.

Hope this helps. Please remember to rate my answer. Thanks.

Of course I am assuming you are not referring to the fuel warning light which is built into the fuel gauge itself. If so this is simply reminding you that fuel is low and you need to top up.

Hello i have a coaster motorhome 1990 i need to know what the orange light is on the dash below the fuel gauge . it has only just come on . Im woundering if it has anything to do with the fuel tank

if the fuel gauge is reading low --under a 1/4 full then very possibly it is a low fuel light and you have about 5 liters of fuel left to get to a fill point

2001 f150 4.6 low oil pressure 2 or 3 minutes first start

Since you already know what your physical oil pressure is at idle I would try to get an accurate spec from Ford. if 10psi is normal the the problem is likely the switch or cluster.
If it is below spec it could be high mileage (normal bearing wear will lower idle pressure) a weak bypass spring in the pump, or a the wrong oil filter or oil.
If you are not hearing any "lifter clatter" or knocking when u start it, I wouldn't be too concerned about a bad pump or engine damage just yet.
Use only 5/30 or 10/30! anything thicker can cause cam damage due to oil starvation. Also going to long between oil changes can lower idle pressure as the oil looses viscosity and thins out.
According to factory wiring diagrams 2001 F150 does not have a pressure gauge , it has a warning light, however when I read the test procedure it talks about a gauge. either way, light or gauge, it uses a switch (not a sender) to signal the cluster that oil pressure is either above or below a certain value. again, I'm sorry, i don't know what that value is.
The instrument cluster receives ground through an oil pressure switch. When oil pressure is above a certain pressure the switch closes and the instrument cluster then turns out the light or indicates "normal" oil pressure. if the pressure is below a certain value the switch is open (the circuit to the cluster is not grounded) and the light will be on or the gauge will read no pressure.
The light or gauge is NOT directly controlled by the switch. If it has a gauge the gauge will show an increase in pressure when engine RPM increases (calculated by the cluster) it is not showing true pressure.
if your idle pressure is normal, you can test the by grounding the circuit at the switch, key on, if the light is out or the gauge reads normal the problem is the switch (assuming that physical pressure is above spec).
If the idle pressure is slightly below spec you could try an oil stabilizer like Lucas or STP and keep your oil change intervals to 3500 miles.
I hope this helps, feel free to contact me for more information

Low on fuel warning light not coming on

My experience is with a 98 and a 99 cavalier but I don't think the changes from 97-98 included the cluster, so here's my experience. There is no designated warning light for the fuel gauge. When the gauge gets to almost empty(just a millimeter or so above empty) the red "check gauges" light will illuminate. I don't know whether you have had the tank this empty or not, but periodic checking of the cluster should make you notice if the level is this low. Hope this helps, it's all I can say with the info posted.

Fuel tank capacity and oil capacity for oil change

Your gas tank should hold about 13.1 gal.s I believe and your oil for a oil change including filter is 4 quarts only....don't overfill! I own one so I know.

2002 jeep check check gauges light comes on only when i come to a stop and the oil gauge drops down. When I drive the the gauge goes up and the light goes off. Is this something major?! Its up to date on...

I would bet its the oil pressure sending unit. Very common on jeeps and chryslers. It is located right above the oil filter and is an easy DIY project and fairly inexpensive as well.

Wont idle or start without priming tbi

first check fuel pressure with a mechanical fuel gauge that attaches to fuel line schrader valve. around T.B.I. if no pressure with key on check fuel pump relay for correct operation, and also the oil pressure switch has the fuel circuit to it so possible oil pressure switch also. fuel pump has a check valve to keep fuel from going back to tank, so when u turn key on fuel pressure should go up within 1-2 seconds on gauge. if fuel pressure goes down quickly, possible bad fuel check valve, change fuel pump and fuel pump check valve (located right above fuel pump inside tank)

Fuel gauge does not move, stays on E, after car starts. Low fuel light is not coming on.

Hello graytape, was the fuel gauge and low fuel light working and then one day just stopped working?, if so, you have probably blown a fuse and you should be able to locate what fuse and where it's located in the owner's manual.
If you recently got the vehicle and then you found out that the gas gauge and low fuel light doesn't work then that is something completely different.
without knowing the year of the vehicle I can only give you an educated guess.
Many vehicles have a float in the gas tank and this float is directly linked to what you see on the gas gauge. However, after a number of years the floats get saturated from the fuel and become heavy, heavy enough to where they don't float anymore. That is one of the most common causes of the fuel gauge not working.
The sensor that activates the low fuel warning light may be independent of the fuel gauge and the fuel in the tank isn't low enough to turn it on. Your tank has to be very low to activate the low fuel warning light.
Good luck!

Guages on 87 olds cutlass are not working properly. fuel does not work, temperature works but goes strainght to hot as soon as the car warms up, amp gueage discharging oil pressure not working

Hi, you will have to replace all sending units for these gauges in order to restore them to there original state. i will list the sending units and there respective locations below.

1. Fuel gauge sending unit- you will need to replace the fuel sending unit on your Olds. its located inside the actual fuel tank. there's a floater attached to this Assembly and , its broken. you will have to replace the entire assembly. you will also have to drop the fuel tank to access it as well.

2. Temp guage-- normally when this guage starts to malfunction, its because of a bad coolant temperature sensor. Inspect the sensor's wires and connections. ECT (engine coolant temperature) sensor problems are often caused by faulty wiring or loose or corroded connections rather than the failure of the sensor itself. If the wires or connections are bad, replace them. If you think the sensor is defective, it should be tested.

This sensor is located Under hood, center, upper engine area, front of carburetor, passenger side of water outlet, mounted in intake manifold.

3. Amp gauge --- OK, this can be caused by a bad voltage regulator. i would also trace every single wire from the amp gauge to the sensor and regulator. check for corroded connectors and contact clips. replace any wire that may seem worn.

4. Oil pressure gauge-- This gauge will malfunction if the Oil pressure switch is faulty or not working. This is an Information relay unit for the indicator light or gauge on instrument panel. It contains a diaphragm that responds to changes in oil pressure. When the oil level is over a pre-set limit, the diaphragm opens the switch, turning off the light. When level is below the pre-set limit, the dash light comes on. In later model cars, if the oil pressure drops, the switch turns off the fuel pump, to stop the engine and limit damage to internal parts. Oil pressure switches can be grouped into two categories, units for electrical gauges and for mechanical gauges. If this switch is defective, it will have to be replaced. Once replaced, it will fix the dead oil gauge.

This device is located Under the hood, passenger side, front engine area, mounted rear of water pump. If the wires are worn or there is an oil leak near the switch location, replace it.

Inspecting all the above areas and replacing parts if needed, will fix your gauge issues.

Please rate and god bless:)
