Question about Mazda MX-5 Miata

1 Answer

I HAVER AN 04 MIATA. I LIVE IN PHOENIX AND WHEN IT GETS ABOVE 103 DEGREES AND THE CAR HAS BEEN DRIVEN FOR A FEW HOURS THE ENGINE WILL BEGIN TO STALL. DOES NOT CUT OUT COMPLETLY BUT IF THE CAR DOES CUT OUT COMPLETLY IT WILL START RIGHT UP. I DID HAVE A RAT EAT AWAY AT SOME WIRES THAT(THREE TO BE EXACT)COME INTO THE TOP REAR ENGINE. LOOKS LIKE A POSSIBLE SENSER OF SOME SORT. I DID SPLICE THE WIRES BUT I'M WONDERING IF THEY MAY BE GETTING TO HOT AND CREATING A SHORT THAT IS CAUSING THE ENGINE TO MISFIRE AND STALL?

You should scan the vehicle and if you have no code then go into data and see with sensor is defaulting if you get hesitation when driven then the check engine light should be on and if not check fuel pressure

Idle problem (stalling) when car reaches full hot

There's a possibility that the ECT (engine coolant temp.) sensor isn't working the way it's supposed to. The engine may be at operating temp but the sensor may be telling the engine computer it's cold still and it'll act like an automatic choke on a carb. engine.

I had a 76 Cadillac years ago that did that to me once. Took it in and found out it was completely out of oil. Have you checked your fluids?

Hi, It's me again, the 97 Crown Vic. I understand exactly what you're saying and will have someone look under my car ASAP. The one thing that I just don't get is.... even when it's not...

Your car has a temperature senser and as soon as the temperature is above a certain level the engine fails as a way of safety. its a safety control switch . First start the engine when it is cool and then check the performance of the fan. Is the generating enough air to cool the engine.as it is running check the temperature gauge i the car and see the level . It could be the fan not providing enough air cool the engine.

98 Ford Taurus SE. Stalling and lighting problems Here are the problems I have been having with my car for the past 2 years off and on. 1. Occasionally it says my door is not closed when it is, thus...

it sounds like the fuel pump is going out, and it sounds like the switch in the door is sticking. you can try to spray a contact cleaner, this may help, but I am sure if you bought a new switch it would fix the problem. Hope this helped tim

'02 Miata stalls randomly

your crank position sensor is starting to go bad. we see this a lot at the shop, when it gets hot it will short itself out. you will need to replace it before it goes out all the way. it is located on the front of the valve cover or on the pass side rear of the cover and is held it by one bolt. you can get this at your local parts house but I do recommend you use the one from the dealer we seem to have less problems with them.

383 Stoker Chevy dies when I put it in gear

That converter should make stalling less of an issue, not more. (stall speed is higher than stock) Make sure that you have the cam degreed in properly, that you have the timing set properly (I'd use 8-12 degrees to begin) and make sure that you have no vacuum leaks.
With a stock converter, you shouldn't use any cam with more than 220 degrees duration...With the higher stall converter, you may get a few more degrees leeway. Also, the carb is too small for the application...should have at least a 750 dbl pumper or larger on there depending largely upon the car weight, gearing and what you have as far as intake and exhaust. (header diameter, length and design)...This should have been all figured out on paper before spending a dime for parts...Biggest mistake I see is people putting "mis-matched" parts together and expecting it to work (everything needs to compliment everything else)

1999 Chevrolet Tracker low idle problem when cold

Here is the most common cause of surges and stalls and low idle rough idle, it is the idle speed control air-bypass valve and throttle valve (IAC for short), they get full of gunk over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.
