I suspect you have a bent shifting fork, located inside the transmission. Some trannys are easier than others to change out the shifting forks while others are a nightmare , but it is a major job with a lot of steps required to do .As transmissions can be very difficult and are complex I would recommend checking on the price of a used or rebuilt one - or getting an estimate from a tranny shop to fix yours. You can greatly lower the cost by pulling and re - installing the tranny yourself. Make sure the shop you choose has a warranty - it's easy to do this job wrong and mess up the tranny!!!
Call the salvage yard up and they can tell you exactly what motors and trannys will work with each other. They have listings on the computer on what motors and trannys can be used on certain vehicles.Hope this helps.Good luck.
check oil level first, than check the electrical connector on the tranny. This sound like the transmission shifts from overdrive to drive. Check the wiring from the transmission to ECU and other items. If than happen again, check the shift cable, kick down cable. If that doesn't help, let the tranny be checked at a servicestation.
This is a heavy job. This must be done in a service center. The entire automatic transmission assembly will be taken off from the engine.before the other standard 5 speed transmission can be installed. The car will be lifted up to dismount the old one. This also need a mobile lift to hold the dismounted auto transmission and bring it down The mobile lift will also bring the 5 speed tranny up and mounted to the engine, and the propeller shaft. But you must have the compatible 5 speed tranny first.
It is most likely a speed sensor located on the transmission toward the aft area of tranny, look for wires and connection plug I would advise purchasing a Haynes repair manual $20.00
best website help for this is at http://www.wjjeeps.com/speed_sensors.htm. I am doing the same thing. You will need to figure out if you have a 42RE tranny or a 45 RFE tranny. Best way will be to get under the car and look to see if you have an input and output sensor or just the output.
