In hot weather my 91 plymouth Acclaim bogs out

91 plymouth Acclaim In hot weather the engine will start to cut out when I give it gas, after driving about 15 miles. Finally it will die. If I let it sit for about 10 min. It will run again for a few more miles and then start to cut out again. I read the repair manual and think it might be the computer. Any suggestions?

It is your computer. the ecm is the electronic control module which is the brain of your car and sometimes when the ecm shuts down so does everything thing else on the car too. you can go and buy a rebuilt ecm and make sure that they FLASH it because it wont work if they dont. it is less than $200

We have a 91 Plymouth Acclaim 6 cyl. The car runs well when at speed but it randomly stalls out at idle. It will also stall randomly when slowing down to stop in traffic. Any ideas what it might be?

Remove the A.I.S motor and give it a good cleaning (especially the pintle -pointed end ) with throttle body spray cleaner, as well as the port you remove it from, then re-install and try it. That will usually cure it, and if it starts to happen again, replace the A.I.S. motor. Doesn't hurt to give throttle plate and area a spray while your at it.fd70c70.gif

More then likely need a recharge and checked for leaks, your car came with R12, which is not sold any more, you will have to retro fit to 134a freon, auto parts sell this kit, hope this was helpful.

What type of engine oil would i use for a 1992 Plymouth Acclaim?

5W30 is recommended but if you have a lot of miles on the engine & the weather is hot, 10W40 would be better. Good car, had one myself! Good luck!

Bogs down on acceleration

buy 2 fuel filters. buy can of SEAFOAM at parts store. use 1 f filter to replace old one(you'll probably see old looking gas, with an odor).Pour SEAFOAM into tank. fill up with PREMIUM gas. after about 100 miles change out fuel filter 1 last time..add SEAFOAM every 3-5000 miles and you should be fine. the ethanol in the gas turns to goop and adds water to your fuel, and puts carbon on your valves and through out your emission and fuel system. The ethanol will be alright as long as you follow these instructions. and the SEAFOAM will keep you from having line freeze up in the cold months ahead, and will give you better gas mileage. good luck.

1991 Plymouth Acclaim stalls

One of the more common problems with the 2.5L & 2.2L engines that suffered the symptoms your describing, such as, starts & runs good, then at any given time would just quit, not start, but after sitting a while, or by the time the mechanic gets to it, it starts right up, or you sit on the side of the road for 20 min. or half hour then away it goes for a while longer, then quits again down the road. There is a pick-up plate under the distributor cap & rotor, with the wiring plug coming from it. 90% of the time, it's defective, and cuts out especially, but not limited to, more often when weather is hot.
