SOURCE: Problems with the HFL in the acura MDX

Super easy to fix yourself. Sit in y our backseat and pull as hard as you can on the air cond controls. Pull it straight back and hard enough to make you think it could break - it won't. You'll see the top pops off easily and the bottom needs a little coaxing, just keep pulling it straight back and massage it when it needs it. Once you get that off, there is a little black box right there with a bluetooth symbol on it. The cable is really easy to remove, if you have to use force, you're doing it wrong. There is a little pressure button on the cable that will release it from the unit. That unit is what needs replacing; this is a common problem among MDX's, apparently. Anyway, you can get this part on ebay by searching for "07-11 Acura MDX HFL" without the quotes. They run about $140, it looks like.

Good luck!

Acura 2008 MDX phone blue tooth connect is grayed out

If the Bluetooth connection and HFL (HandsFreeLink) option on your 2008 Acura MDX are grayed out, it may be due to a few different causes. Here are some possible solutions:
  1. Check to make sure that your phone is compatible with the Bluetooth system in your Acura. If your phone is not compatible, it will not be able to connect.
  2. Make sure that the Bluetooth feature on your Acura is turned on. If it is not, you will not be able to connect your phone.
  3. Make sure that your phone's Bluetooth feature is turned on and that it is in pairing mode. If it is not, you will not be able to connect.
  4. Make sure that the phone is not already paired to another device. If it is, it will not be able to connect to your Acura.
  5. Check for software updates for your Acura's radio or navigation system. Sometimes updates can fix issues with Bluetooth connectivity.
  6. If your Acura was recently serviced, the technician may have disconnected the battery, which could cause the settings to be lost. In this case, you may need to have the settings reset by a Acura dealership.
If the problem persist, it may be necessary to take your vehicle to an Acura dealership to have it checked and repaired if necessary.

I have an acura MDX 2006 - fully loaded. The problem i have is that suddenly the bluetooth has stopped working. I checked with the dealer and they quoted about 1000 to replace the module. can anyone please...

Do you mean the Hands Free Link that pairs your phone with the audio system? If so, then it sounds like your HFL board has died. I have the same vehicle and the same problem. A new board costs about $200 online (part # 39770-S3V-A61ZB; there's also a 39770-S3V-A61ZA but it costs ~$80 more and as near as I can tell the only difference is that it's a different color, but since you can't see it, no sense in paying extra for that) and is located in the compartment in the ceiling just above the rearview mirror (where the two overhead lights, sunroof switch, and OnStar controls are). It's not terribly hard to pull out and replace the board yourself (there's a guy who posted a series of Youtube videos for doing it on a TL, but it's virtually the same procedure on the MDX, search for 'HFL removal and install").

I don't have the code for the bluetooth system for my Acura MDX. Is there a reset button for the bluetooth setup?

Hi,

If you got an owner's manual with the X, check page 172 for "clearing the system".

If not, the manual says to Press and releas the top of the TALK/BACK button. After the beep, say "System." The HFL will respond is, "System options are setup and clear." Press and release the "TALK/BACK button. After the beep, say "Clear." This process will clear all paired phones, all phonebook entries , and clear the passcode. Is this what you would like to do?" Press and release the TALK/BACK button. After the beep, say "Yes." The HFL will respond "Preparing to clear all paired phones, all phonebook entries, and the passcode. This may take up to 2 minutes to complete." Press and release the TALK/BACK button. After the beep, say "OK" to proceed or say "go back" or "Cancel. If you say "OK," after a short period of time, the HFL response is, "System has been cleared. Returning to the main menu."

Good luck.
