It is necessary to remove the fuel tank from the vehicle to replace the fuel pump

  1. Using a hammer and a non metallic punch carefully tap lock ring counter clockwise to release pump.
  2. Remove fuel pump and 0-ring seal from tank. Discard old seal and pump inlet filter. Installation
  1. Wipe seal area of tank clean and place a new 0-ring seal in position on pump.
  2. Before installing pump always install a new filter on the end of suction tube.
  3. Position fuel pump in tank with locking ring.
  4. Using a hammer and non metallic punch drive ring around clockwise to lock pump in place. CAUTION: Extreme care should be exercised not to overtighten pump as it could leak.
  5. Install tank.

SOURCE: Changing Fuel Filter in a 1988 Plymouth Reliant

Hi there!

It's located on the passenger side of the car in front of the rear tire.
Change it in the morning, after the car has stood overnight as it will be under pressure otherwise, and need to be depressurised.
Have a bowl and rags handy to catch spilled fuel during this operation.

You will need a Spanner to remove the bolt holding the filter and pliers and/or a screwdriver to remove the hose clamps from the filter.
Remove the bolt and then remove the hose clamps. Slowly pull the hoses off the filter. Dispose of the used filter properly. Then reverse the steps to put on the new filter

If this proves useful, Please spare a moment to rate it as Fixya! Thanks.

You'll can

But you'll have to plug the line very fast. with the pressure and volume of a full tank it makes that simple job a bit more of a task.

When you remove the rubber line from the nozzle of the fuel filter have a stemming plug or bolt handy to quickly insert to seal the flow from the line coming from the tank.

If you can either drain the tank via manual or electronic siphon or run some of that fuel out. Before taking that on or you're going to spill an yet to be determined amount of fuel.

You're right; It sounds like fuel delivery, but start with the simplest suspects first.
Change the fuel filter(s) first, and if this doesn't get it, go for the fuel pump.

The fuse box is located on the bottom edge of the dash no the drivers side, there should be a small panel you pull out. Based on the age of the car, it is quite possible that you have a bad fuel pump. Try giving the tank a good rap with a rubber mallet or wooden broom stick and see if it starts. Sometimes the jolt frees up the pump.

NO FUEL GETTING TO ENGINE

It might be your fuel injectors clogged maybe.

Yeah, The fuel filter for a 2.2L plymouth reliant Le is on the passenger side just before the rear tire. Its like right next to the gas tank. Sort of in by the middle (not by the body frame). Hope this helps.
