Question about 1990 Buick Riviera

Dash My dash (all gauges) go off and sometimes comes back on. I was just wondering what it could be? is it wiring or computer fuses?

Oldsmobile alero gages not working and dashboard lights are on


There is a fuse for the gauges. Open the door and the fuse panel is on the side of the dash. One on each side, But I believe the gauge fuse is on the drivers side. Pull the fuse and look at it. If it is blown, replace it. If not put it back in, see if the gauges come on. Corrosion will sometimes kill the power at the fuse. Pulling it out takes care of it. If it still doesn't work, next I would pull the dash and do the same, pull the plug and put it back in. Corrosion. After that is checking wires.

Dashboard gauges turn off and on


A bad connection could be it, possibly a failing relay. One would have to pull some paneling off, possibly the steering wheel covers, to start looking for the problem.
Coming out of the ignition switch will be a start wire, an accessory wire, and a run wire. The run wire is for both the ignition system and for the gauges and warning lights. One splice of this run wire will go to the fuse panel, to power up those fuses that are termed "hot in run or accessory". Or sometimes, the run wire energizes a relay that sends power to the fuse panel. One of these fuses will be for the gauges and warning lights in the dash.
If you have a test light or voltmeter, you could check the fuse terminals for power at those times when the gauges are not working. If the fuse terminal shows no power when the key is on, then the problem is between the ignition switch and the fuse panel. This could be a relay that is not working- probably called an ignition relay-and it may be right around the fuse panel. If the fuse terminals do have power when key is on, but gauges are not working, the problem is between the fuse panel and the dash-will probably need to pull the dash cluster out to look further-possibly the electrical connector or connections at the cluster. If you wiggle the wiring around the fuse panel and the ignition switch and see the gauges move (key on), then you are wiggling a bad connection and can find and fix it.

My dash light do not come on


FIrst, spin the brightness knob back and forth, if dirt or corrosion are causing the problem, this cleans the contact area. If that does not resolve it, check the fuses number 7 and 11 just under the dash on drivers side, it has a cover on it that comes off.

If the lights for system check do not come on when the key is turned to run without starting engine, check the fuses number 9 and 5 just under the dash on drivers side.

If this does not correct the issue, and the following- Radio glove box light, ashtray light, ABS light at startup with the other system check lights do work, the bulbs for dash illumination are probably burned out.

if the radio, ash tray and glove box light work and the other system check lights do not- the dash cluster may be seperated from the connector on the back side. or the ground wire for the cluster may not be making contact. The ground wire specific for the dash cluster lights is a black wire with orange trace stripe.

I have a 1991 lincoln town car and i was wondering if someone can help me find the fuse for the cigarette lighter so i can use my car charger lol.


There's two an their both in the under dash fuse panel, sometimes the fuse does'nt blow and the ground wire just comes off the lighter socket. the one in the dash is on one fuse n all the rest Back doors and trunk are on the other fuse. It's the number 10 fuse and theirs only the one.in the left hand fuse panel under the dash to the left of the sr=eeringcolum it has a black plastic cover on it.

Dash lights, rpm's/speedometer/fuel gauge etc. go out. They turn back on stay on most of the time but will go out sometimes by themselves or when I hit a bump. How do I fix the connection?


Sounds like an intermittent Earth connection. Check for a loose Earth wire bolt either behind the Dash or near the Fuse Panel.

1994 Honda Civic not starting


you need to check all fuses one by one for loose contact.leave the igtion key to on position and try to tap the fuse box, shake wires from battery going to inside the car.A testlight is effective in diagnosting this trouble.Probing the wires on the ignition switch while turning on the key.Need somebody to observe the cluster while performing the troubleshooting.

My dash lights are not lighting up and the fules is not burn out


Is it only a few in the dash? Around or in the gauge cluster?

If they are in the cluster than you have to remove the whole gauge cluster, it comes out as a whole unit, the bulb accesses are in the back of the cluster, they usually twist out.

Sometimes the trim around the cluster will usually pop out, only connected by spring clips. Some are connected with screws and may have plastic caps covering them. Once you remove the trim, the cluster is screwed in and you should see them around the periphery of the cluster.

If every single light went out all at once, it seems like it would be more of a fuse, or bad wiring to the dash.

My gauges don't work, on the instrument panel why?it's a 1994 dodge caravan 3.0 Liters, list of things that don't work are speedometer - gas - temperature - kilometers - I never know how much gas I have or...


There is a fuse for the instrument under the dash on the drivers side, if the fuse is good. Then give the dash a hit with your close fist right over the instrument panel, sometimes that brings it back to life. It's common for the wire harness clip on the instrument panel circuit board solder goes bad and need to be re soldered, the heat of the current after a few years will melt the solder and the clip comes loose and needs to be re solder back in place. Just remove the instrument panel from the dash, disconnect the wire harness and remove the circuit board and solder the clip back in place. Good luck and hope this helps. be glad to help.
