There are three ways usually...
You'll need to remove a screw securing the base onto the mount (usually on metal bases)
You'll need to lift up a clip on the bottom of the base and then slide the base off the mount (usually on plastic rectangular bases
You'll need to twist the base about 45 - 90 degrees so that it slips off of the mount (usually on bases that are circular)
Testimonial: "Excellent response and timely! I am attempting to find the right "tool" to pry up the internal clip...a flatblade screwdriver doesn't seem to do it."

There are a number of simlpe things that you can do in this situation.1) only use Honda filters,I find some of the after market ones poor.2)Check the seat where the oil filter sits for burrs or nasties.3) Are you overfilling your oil, this will cause the oil pressure to go sky high and leak where it can.4) are you 100% positive that is coming from the filter ring,Many tines it comes from above the filter and the extra burns off misleading you into believing its the filter.I just went through the same thing with my bike and it tuned out to be a base gasket. You may have to strip away some plastic on the bike to get a good look.Good luck and good riding.

You will need to remove remove the 2 Torx Bolts below the handle bars on the fairing. Remove each Torx Bolt on the upper part of the fairing. They are located at the bottom outside corner of each speaker. Then remove both wind deflectors if so equipped. Last are the 3 Torx bolts just under the front of the windshield. Now you can remove the windshield. If you pulled out the headlight you would be able to remove the whole fairing cover. Its all pretty easy.
