SOURCE: 1994 1.9 the timing belt broke.did it bend the valves.
For what it's worth, my info tells me it's a non-interference engine, so your o.k. but I will double check that & get back to you.

Yes you can bend valves when the timing belt breaks. Without knowing the car call your dealer up and ask them if this is a problem for your year and make a model car. European and Japanese cars and also high performance cars are more likely to have this problem. But not all cars for instance most Ford escorts do not have valve interference problems. But if you replace the timing belt and the car Mises or backfires you probably have a bent valve. And you would need a valve job that this point. Good luck.
