If it was a stock rebuild the original PCM settings should be fine check all the fuses and wiring possibly something was damaged or left loose this stuff happens to the best of the SES light needs to be reset with a scan tool make sure to record all codes stored in the computer as this will aid in diagnosing any problems. the car must be ran thru a drive cycle usually normal driving conditions of say a mix of city and highway driving until the PCM relearns all parameters like o2 sensors emissions sensors ect... this can also be checked with the scan tool in the readiness moniters these monitors will be reset every time the SES light is reset. when pumping the gas pedal 3 time you are just resetting the maintenance light.

How can i tell if my computer has went bad on my 1997 chevy lumina 3.1?

Patrick, car places refer to the computer as the Engine Control Module, or the ECU.
According to "If you are having a bunch of codes that don't mean anything then you might have an ECM going bad, but first you need to make sure all of the powers and ground paths are clean and tight, then clear the system and run a relearn for the ECM, usually about 20 minutes driving normally will do this, if the check engine turns on again then have the codes read and repost back here for further diagnosis. The computer or ECM controls all of the fuel delivery, spark timing and on some vehicles the charging system, that is why it needs a good power and ground pathway, ECM's do fail but I have found that a lot of problems are related to either a power supply or ground, this can be very time consuming. "

"The ECM will remember that there was a failure and still have a light and a code, you need to clear the system before trying to retest, the best way to clear it is to disconnect the negative battery terminal, turn on the headlights, wait 30 seconds, turn off the headlights, reconnect the battery , start en"gine and drive normally, the ECM should relearn in about 20 minutes of driving unless there is still a hard fault then the check engine light will turn right back on and you can get the code..
One of the cheapest ways to replace an ECM is to pull one out of a wrecking yard.

I have a 97 Chevy Lumina. It has 276,*** miles on it. I bought it used 4 months ago. It was running excellent then the service engine soon light, low coolant light, and change oil soon light started coming...

The fact that the oil was low would not be from the oil pump, but from wear in the engine. If it is not smoking when you start it or as you drive, you can probably keep it running by just keeping the oil level checked at each fuel fill-up. As for the car shutting off, you didn't say if the engine seized or got real hot. A low oil pressure problem should have triggered a warning light before the problem got to the point where you lost the engine.

If the car ran after you added the oil, you got lucky and need to always check it.

Change oil light.

Turn the ignition to the "ON" position. with the engine NOT running. With the ignition in the "ON" position press the gas pedal down to the floor 3 times within 5 seconds. The light should flash twice. If it doesn't you need to try resetting it again.

On a 1997 chevy lumina car how do you clear the check engine light

Turn key ignition forward but do not start engine. Pump gas pedal fully 3 times then engine light will start flashing. Do not pump gas pedal short quick pumps. After light is flashing turn ignition off then start engine. The check engine will reset it's self.

Signal displaying

That is the check engine light, it is either a fault in the engine oil or cooling, or the emission system, consult the owners manual, it explains these indicators, in any event don't drive the car until you are sure there is not a fault with the engine, if it is just the emission fault light then you can drive it for a while.
