Engine starts and idles fine, but will not rev up (2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.1 diesel auto)

If it was a fuel shortage the engine would rev but to limited speed. This is a lack of air to throttle body. Check for clogged air filter and all the piping and the throttle body.

My 2006 jeep grand cherokee dies when its idling sometimes

Does it idle up and down first or just die? Idle isues are tricky and are usually just a vac leak (a hole in a hose between your Mass Air Flow sensor MAF and your carborator/throttle body). 1st Visually inspect those hoses and then spray some carb cleaner on these parts too and listen for the engine to rev up a tad. If it revs when carb cleaner hits it...that's your leak. 2nd If the idle is bouncing up and down, it may be your Idle Air Control Valve IAC. Test the IAC by disconnecting the electrical connector and listen for change. If no change...replace the IAC. You can also test the Resistance of the IAC with a DMM...this will be in a chilton/Hanes guide. You can also spray MAF cleaner onto the MAF sensor within the MAF however, if the MAF goes out the car usually will not start. (Do Not spray Carb cleaner on the MAF)!!! Good Luck

1999 Jeep grand cherokee limited - irregular idle

I don 't know if I can solve it, but I had a very similar problem on a 2002 Grd Cherokee Laredo. It ended up being the Throttle Positioning Sensor (TPS). Unfortunately the part alone is about $125 and and total installed cost was about $250. It would idle high at first, then gradually work it self down to a normal idle. Once it was warmed up it it would have an up and down RPM during idling, and several times it stalled out at intersections. There was also a lot of transmission clunking going on when you put it in reverse or drive.
Runs like a dream now. Clunking is gone and idle speed is just right.

You haven't changed everything...map sensor controls spark and fuel mixture as does the throttle position sensor, also check the idle control valve...Don't just buy stuff...do testing first.

02 Grand Cherokee High RPM start. Cuts out when driving

Ckean throttle plate inside throttle body...They tend to get dirtier than their counterparts in carbureted engines due to lack of fuel spray that kept them clean. If no luck with that, clean idle air control valve on TB. When doing this, don't turn the plunger, just clean with carb spray and replace. do not loose "o" ring seal.
Good luck
