2004 forenza 2.0l replaced radiator coolant not getting into radiator hose. Thermostat was open but dry as a bone. Water pump?

replace water pump; sounds like it's coming from the weep hole(that's what it's called), because it starts like tears, and then comes the floodgates. your're gonna need a w pump.

Sorry to tell you that your problem is YOU have a Head gasket blowen OR a Cracked head, either way you have to remove the head and take it away for Crack testing and surface grind (max 4 thou) no more.
If all ok when done replace with new VRS and refill with coolant (but turn on the heater to hot before filling to remove all AIR

I hate to be the barrier of bad news, but in this case I would suggest that your engine either has a blown head gasket, and/or a warped head.

There is also the possibility that you blew a "soft plug" or cracked the block and that the coolant is leaking out through the base of the engine.

To find out of you have a blown head gasket, you can remove the oil cap from the valve cover and inspect it. If it has a yellow-brown-ish goo that is the consistency of paint, then you definitely have a blown head gasket and coolant has mixed with your oil. Meaning that you likely need an overhall.

You can also check by removing your radiator cap and checking to see if little tiny bubbles come up while the car is running. That is a sign of a compression leak, meaning that you most likely have a crack somewhere in either the cylinder head or the block.

Also, those cars have many very small radiator hoses that are in the middle of the engine and hard to see, find or replace.

In this instance, it sounds like your car has over heated more than 4 times, and once you get to that point you are likely to have fried the engine. This is because the newer engines are mostly aluminum and can't stand that much heat that often.

I would suggest seeking either a new car, or seeking a used engine to replace in your car. A used engine for those is fairly cheap compared to the price of fixing the problems that are likely to have occurred from excessive over heating.

I prefer the combustion leak detector.This is placed over the fill reservoir and connected to a vacuum source.The cylinder is then filled with a chemical that changes from blue to yellow when combustion gases hit it Additionally a very good way to check for a coolant leak is a UV light.Antifreeze is very flourecent with one of these.

START WITH THE BASICS. CLEAN, FULL 50/50 MIX IN SYSTEM. CHANGE THERMOSTAT. LOOK FOR TRACES OF COOLANT LOSS FROM THE WEEP HOLE IN BOTTOM OF WATER PUMP (USUALLY UNDER PULLEY). start a cold engine and let it idle . After about 10 minutes you will feel that the top radiator starts to get hot. This indicates that the thermostat is opening and allowing hot coolant through to the radiator. This means that the thermostat was replaced . Point of interest here . Water pumps no not cause over heating. They will have seal and bearing failure but other than that they never cause overheating unless they are 50 years old and rusted away at the impeller. A new pump will be shiny clean.

2006 suzuki forenza keeps overheating have had the water pump replaced and the thermostat and gaskets.


Sounds like a leaking head gasket. The gasket may have been damaged when the engine ran hot the first time.
You should not need to add coolant, so it has to be going somewhere.

We just replaced the radiator and the thermastat but the needle still goes to hot


replace the temperature sending unit. Its right there by the thermostat. You can get this at any auto parts store. just need an open end wrench to change it. they do go bad(found out the hard way several years back). I hope this helps you

WELL YOU NEED TO DRAIN COOLANT LEVEL BELOW THERMOSTAT LEVEL.YOU HAVE TO DISCONNECT MAF SENSOR LOOSEN AIRDUCT 2 LARGE CLAMPS LOOSEN REMOVE 4 SCREWS TO AIR FILTER COVER LIFT UP REMOVE COVER. THEN REMOVE AIR FILTER AND HOUSING, FIRST DISCONNECT MAF SENSOR.YOU HAVE TO DISCONNECT THROTTLE CABLE AND SHIFT CABLE.YOU HAVE TO DISCONNECT REMOVE THROTTLE BODY COOLANT HOSES DISCONNECT IDLE SPEED CONTROL VALVE CONNECTOR AND DISCONNECT TPS SENSOR CONNECTOR. How to replace thermostat on ford f350 turbo diesel


The F-350 designation refers to a 1-ton Ford F-Series pickup truck. The thermostat in your diesel-powered Ford closes off the flow of coolant when the engine is cold, forcing the engine to heat up faster. When the coolant has reached a certain temperature, the thermostat opens up and the coolant flows as normal. A malfunctioning thermostat in your diesel may cause your engine to overheat if the thermostat gets stuck in the closed position. Installation of a new thermostat will cure the problem and get you back on the road

  • Open the hood. Allow the motor to cool off so that you will not be scalded by hot coolant. Locate the thermostat housing by tracing the upper radiator hose from the driver's side of the radiator to its termination at the thermostat housing.
  • 2 Remove the cap from the white plastic coolant bottle at the front of the engine bay. Place a drain pan under the radiator drain petcock on the lower side of the radiator on the driver's side of the truck. Remove the petcock by rotating it counterclockwise with a 19mm wrench. Replace the petcock and tighten it in a clockwise direction once the coolant has fully drained.
  • 3 Remove the clamps from both ends of the upper radiator hose with a pair of pliers. Pull the hose from the radiator and from the thermostat housing, using a twisting motion. Set the hose and clamps aside.
  • 4 Spray penetrating fluid on the three mounting bolts on the thermostat housing and let it soak in for a few minutes. Remove the three bolts with an 8mm wrench turned counterclockwise. Remove the thermostat housing from the water pump and set it and the bolts aside.
  • 5 Remove the thermostat housing from the water pump to reveal the thermostat. Carefully pry the thermostat up with a flat-blade



  • screwdriver if necessary. Clean the mating surfaces on the thermostat housing and at the water pump with a rag.
  • 6 Place a new thermostat into the water pump with the pointed end facing upward. Install a new O-ring gasket into the groove on the thermostat housing mating surface of the water pump. Position the thermostat housing back onto the water pump and tighten the three bolts with a torque wrench to 15 foot-lbs.
  • 7 Push the upper radiator hose back onto the radiator inlet and the thermostat housing until it is fully seated at both ends. Replace the hose clamps in their original position with a pair of pliers. Refill the coolant that you drained from the radiator back into the white plastic coolant tank and replace the cap. Start the engine and let it warm up. Check for leaks and retighten your connections if necessary

    Removal & Installation


    4.2L Engine

    1. Remove the necessary coolant from the radiator.
    2. Remove the alternator, as outlined in the Engine Electrical Section.
    3. Loosen the outlet hose clamp at the thermostat housing. Remove the outlet hose from the thermostat housing.
    4. Remove the thermostat housing bolts.
    5. Remove the thermostat housing from the engine block.
    6. Clean all of the surfaces of the thermostat housing.
    7. Clean the sealing surface of the engine block.
    To install:
    1. Install the thermostat housing to the engine block.
    2. Install the thermostat housing bolts and tighten to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
    3. Lubricate the inner diameter of the radiator hose with engine coolant.
    4. Install the outlet hose to the thermostat housing. Secure the hose with the clamp.
    5. Install the alternator.
    6. Fill the cooling system with specified coolant and concentration.
    7. Inspect all sealing surfaces for leaks after starting the engine.

    5.3L Engine
    NOTE The thermostat is not serviceable separately. The water pump inlet and thermostat must be replaced as an assembly.


    1. Drain the cooling system to a level below the thermostat.
    2. Remove the radiator outlet hose.
    3. Remove the water pump inlet bolts.
    4. Remove the water pump inlet and thermostat from the water pump.

    To install:
    1. Install the thermostat and thermostat housing to the water pump.
    2. Install the thermostat housing bolts. Tighten the bolts to 11 ft. lbs. (15 Nm).
    3. Install the radiator outlet hose.
    4. Properly fill the engine cooling system and check for leaks.

    It Depends on which engine you have, this is how it goes for both. I use a little RTV with a new ring as well.

    THERMOSTAT REPLACEMENT (4.2L ENGINE)
    Removal Procedure
    1. Remove the necessary coolant from the radiator.
    2. Remove the generator.
    3. Loosen the outlet hose clamp at the thermostat housing. Remove the outlet hose from the thermostat housing.
    4. Remove the thermostat housing bolts.
    5. Remove the thermostat housing from the engine block.
    6. Clean all of the surfaces of the thermostat housing.
    7. Clean the sealing surface of the engine block.
    Installation Procedure
    1. Install the thermostat housing to the engine block.
    2. Install the thermostat housing bolts.
    Tighten: Tighten the bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
    3. Lubricate the inner diameter of the radiator hose with engine coolant.
    4. Install the outlet hose to the thermostat housing. Secure the hose with the clamp.
    5. Install the generator.
    6. Fill the cooling system with specified coolant and concentration. Follow the correct cooling systen bleed procedure for your engine.
    7. Inspect all sealing surfaces for leaks after starting the engine.
    THERMOSTAT REPLACEMENT (5.3L ENGINE)
    1. Drain Radiator and remove the radiator outlet hose.
    2. Remove the water pump inlet bolts.
    3. Remove the water pump inlet and thermostat from the water pump.

    IMPORTANT: The thermostat is not serviceable separately. The water pump inlet and thermostat must be replaced as an assembly.
    1. Install the thermostat and thermostat housing to the water pump.
    2. Install the thermostat housing bolts.15 N.m
    3. Install the radiator outlet hose.
    4. Fill the cooling system with specified coolant and concentration. Follow the correct cooling systen bleed procedure for your engine.
    5. Inspect all sealing surfaces for leaks after starting the engine.

    This Accord ('90) has sprung a leak somewhere. Does this model have a track record that narrows my search for it's location? It's only got about 76,000 miles, the radiator core is showing with the pressure...


    Radiator, hoses , water pump, heater core. anywhere coolant goes can be suspect. have it pressure tested or fillit up with coolant, let it get warm and see where its dripping from. if it leaks at the plastic cover over the timing belt, have the water pump and timing belt replaced.
