SOURCE: only starts in neutral/power

Another item is to check the Battery saver relay ( think it is in the cab fuse panel ).

Should be a full size ISO relay, same as trailer tow reverse circuit ( as a swap test ). This is a guess from the list of items, could also be as slosmogman posted. Think The engine compartment fuse #18 feeds part of the cab fuse panel ( not 100% sure if that is the correct fuse, should have a description in the owners manual ).

SOURCE: cooling fan problems

Hi Dave the ECU receives messages from sensors, one of which is a temperature sensor. When the sensor responds to a temp higher than the normal operating temp the fans are then and only then supposed to operate. They will switch in for a brief period and then turn off again. The idle speed is in direct relation to the cold start up idle requirements and specifications. When the engine is cold the idle speed will automatically increase and as the engine achieves operating temp, the idle speed will decrease inthe way you have recorded. If you start the engine and allow it to idle until normal temp is achieved the fan should cut in. The way you've desribed all systems are A okay!. Regards John

SOURCE: Idle drops way low with fan,lights,ect..., on@ operating temp195, IAC is good power,no leak, power from computor;yes, under load, lights ect..,what am I overlooking? 91GeoMetro 3 banger

The electrical load on the alternator will pull the engine RPM down. It takes 10 H.P. to run the alternator. The only recourse to low RPM at idle would be to install a larger diameter pulley on the alternator. Extended idle could result in low battery charge rate. Should be fine at hi way speed. The alternator will not put out below 750 Rpm.

Shuts off when a/c,lights & radio are on like the alternater is bad but no engine code & batt & alt test fine

Hook up a volt meter and watch your voltage when sitting idle and at 2,000rpm while doing each of the following (separately). First turn on the lights, then AC with max fan speed, then wipers.

With a good alternator at idle, it should be around 14v. It should have minor drop with the lights and quickly get back to 14v, when the AC and wipers are turned on it may drop to 13.5v at the lowest.

With a bad alternator at idle, it will probably drop below 13.5v with just the lights, and below 12v with everything else.

At 1,800-2,000rpm there should be virtually no voltage drop more than 2-3secs for the ECU to compensate and command more power from the alternator as this is the peak operating RPM.
