In my 1996 ranger xl my high idle problem was due to a bad ect sensor. After I replaced that I have had no problems with high idle. Not sure if yours is idleing high all the time like mine was but that sensor fixed the problem for me. Hope this helps!

Ford 1986 tauruas idle reves high by it self try to put in gear then dies

Idle air control motor. Clean it or replace it. Check for vacuum leaks. If it still dies, look at the transmission. Valve body or TCC solenoid.

92 SL1 won't idle-wants to die without pushing gas-just put in new plugs

Remove, clean and inspect the idle control valve on the throttle body. These tend to clog up over time, or the stepper motor fails. Check this before anything else.

1983 ford ranger. carb has ben rebuilt. starts good. when i put into gear it wants to die then when you give it to much gas it sputters and wants to die

Do you have an OBD 1 code reader Iwould look at the EGR valve first take if off and look in side the two passages on the intake manifold see if they clogged with carbon. Then take the EGR valve hold it upside down and spray some WD40 on the pentile if it leaks through the EGR it no good . The other thing would be the catyiltic convertor is blocked with it running at idle see what you are getting for exhust flow from the tailpipe. I also now of an after market place that you could get any part for this vehicle you need you need for this vehicle you see i have an 85 ranger

85 ford ranger idles up high then drops down and will die unless give it a little gas. heard it could be egr. where is that on motor? thanks for your help!!!!

it could be the egr valve, located driverside at rear of engine, will have an electrical plug in to it also, simly unplug and 2 bolts that hold it onto the motor. but i do suggest you check it for a bad idle control sensor 1st look on top of motor at the air induction for a round silver canister about 4inches long and 2inches round with an eletrical plug in ,it will have 2 small bolts holding it onto the motor. i suspect that to be your problem, unless it misses bad while driving it. if your only problem is with the idle, i suggest you start with that idle control sensor 1st and as always thank you for choosing

84 ford ranger

try turning up the gas in the carb. gas runs real lean when you get up to high speeds, and lower even more when it heats up, so it would make sense.
