go to the rear of the ignition switch you have to look up from under the drivers foot well ,pull off the plug now you see the electrical part of the ignition switch remove the two screws holding it on to the rear of your ignition switch ,lift it off now put the wiring plug into your electrical part of your ignition switch turn that to start the you can start it.the trouble is your steering lock is still on .so now look with care at your ignition ,you should see a pin holding the barrel on .push in the pin to remove the barrel so now you can drive the car.go to a car breakers and get a barrel and key.

How do i remove the entire iognition switch assemble in mitusbishi gallant 1991

Hi Bruntwood, Disconnect the battery, and then unscrew the screws fitted underneath which hold the plastic cowling surrounding the steering column and then remove the two halves. Disconnect the electrical socket from the plug and then identify the four blind bolts holding the saddle of the ignition barrel and switch. There are a few ways of removing those bolts, but the easiest is to tap them out with the correct sized cold chisel. Once removed the ignition barrel and switch can then be removed and replaced. Assembly is the reverse procedure. Regards and have a happy new ignition barrel and switch and new year. John

How do i put the start ignition switch in a 1989 ford bronco? it looks like a 2 seperate prong thing with 2 metal whole at the other end for guessing it goes in the dash or some thing next to...

hi, although i havnt worked on this particular car, they're pretty much the same throughout. you'll first have to take off the shroud behind the steering wheel which surrounds the ignition barrel, there should be screws/torx underneath which secure this. once removed you should be able to see the ignition barrel and a small retaining screw/s holding it into the frame. undo these. turn the key two clicks i think, just before the car starts. underneath the barrel you will notice two little spring loaded pins which you have to push up with a screwdriver so you can wiggle the barrel out. next just unclip the electrical connections, pull them through one at a time and the barrel should slide free. if you mean youve lost the keys and want to replace the barrel im not sure! hope this helps mate, Rob.

The ignition switch seized up. how do you remove the tumbler

you will have to split the ignition barrel, using either a hammer and small thin chisel or an old screw driver, if you split both side opposite the barrel will fall out, it will in some cases leave the barrel stalk in the black box (the electrical black plastic box at the other side of the barrel housing) to remove this turn with a screwdriver to either position 1 or position 2, at the front of the barrel housing is a release pin hole which will need a small allen key or pot rivet pushing into it to release the barrel stalk, remove with pliars or with flat blade screw drive, place key in new barrell hold thumb over secure pin holding it into the new barrel, then gently turn key 90 degrees, and offer into barrel housing, ensure the secure pin is at all time still into the barrel, slide the barrel into houseing slowly until you mate up the barrel stalk to the black box, and slide in until you hear the secure pin click into place, turn key back to zere and remove slowly, the new barrel is fitted. should take about an hour from start to finish, if it was not seized no more than 15 min to complete. hope this helps.

How can i replace the key switch in a 01 Grand AM and will i need to replace the security mod too?

It depends if you want to change the key barrel or the tumblers, to remove the tumbler set put key in the switch, remove the beauty ring it just snaps on then stick a paper clip into the hole where you removed the ring or on the bottom of the barrel turn the key in reverse past accessories and pull tumbler set out. if you need to remove the barrel you will have unhook the battery then take horn cover off, pull the protective plastic tabs off the rear of the steering wheel and remove the safety tork screws and remove the air bag disconnect the air bag plug. next remove the three screws holding the horn ground ring and the plastic piece that separates it from ground put them in order next remove the center bolt using a steering wheel puller pull steering wheel next compress the plastic cover with the U shaped steering wheel clap and push the plastic dust cover down 1/4 inch next remove the center c cer-clip slide the clip off of the steering wheel shaft remove the dust cover remove the copper tangs on the right side of shaft and you will see a #6 tork screw remove that one screw and the barrel will come out, on some models it's the only way to get the barrel out. If this helps plese rate me. I am a better mechanic than a typest.

you need key in and in on position to remove barrel while pressing in lock pin (in hole) in column if cant get key in or turn drill out barrel with under sized drill bit and slowly go up in drill bit size until you can dig out and remove barrel, lock smiths can come to site and do these type of repairs if needed.

Removing front and back speakers in 1991 Grand Am....

There is a lot involved in replacing these speakers. You should also know that the original factory speakers are 10 ohm speakers. This means that if you replace them with new speakers (most of which are 4 ohm) you run the risk of damaging the stereo, the speakers, or both. This can also cause a potential fire hazard in your car. If you want new speakers, you really should look at installing a new stereo as well.

To get to the back speakers, you will need to remove 2 bolts located under the front edge of the rear seat (bottom). After you remove the bottom, you will need to remove the rear seat (back). This involves removing the bolts that hold down the rear seat belts, which is a large sized torx bit (T-45, T-47, or T-50... Don't remember which). After removing these, lift straight up on the seat back to remove. Now remove the deck brake light housing, and the bracket that holds it. Now the deck cover can be removed. Be careful not to bend it too much getting it out from under the side trim on both sides.

For the front speakers, you must disassemble a good portion of the dash. Remove the screw holding the light switch and the wiper switch housings. This screw is underneath each housing. Once removed, there are dash mounting screws behind them. These screws (and many of the other dash screws) are a smaller torx-bit (T-10 or T-15, don't remember which). Sometimes they use a 7mm bolt. There is a cover panel just above the glove box. This panel is held on with 2 screws located in the glove box. After removing this panel, you will find 2 or 3 bolts holding on the dash. Last but not least, you will find 2 bolts inside each of the defroster vent grilles. These grilles just snap out for easier access to the bolts.
