8500lb. motomaster winch- pulling up dock when winch all of a sudden goes into reverse?? Could this be the hand-held or the winch itself? Runs off a marine battery with a battery tender

it could be either one will need to test the switch with a meter if it got hot use of power will heat up unit the switch can malfunction or the power circuit in the winch did the same --moisture also plays havoc controls check also that no water seepage from cable interfered with power

How can I install an 8000 lb 5.5 hp winch and install front to back wiring rated for at least 360 amps?

There must be endless info about this online or youtube or any of the offroad sites.
Make sure you mount a good cut out switch between the battery and winch you can access in a hurry to save your truck. A big fuse is usually available from the winch co rated for that winch. If it all goes wrong you can isolate the winch. Cable is going to be stick welding cable size to get good power. Be careful how you route it. Its a big winch, use a professional mounting kit and good quality fasteners.

Having trouble with my logging winch constantly pulling in.

service the clutch section of the winch as it appears that something is broken in that section of the winch
This situation is dangerous because if something happens, the winch cannot be disconnected or reversed immediately

My winch don't move it all?

if you can use the winch manually by pressing buttons on the winch then the problem will be in either the remote unit(Battery in back to front) or the receiver in the winch

Polaris ranger problems

put jumper leads from a battery across the main terminals of the winch It should work one way Then reverse the polarity and it should work the other way. If so the winch is good . undo the hand held and check the switch by using a multi meter for continuity on the leads as you switch from in to out.(forward reverse)

Tmax winch no power

The winch has electric solenoids to control the motor. Most of the time when these things quit working, it is either because the solenoid has failed or the wire connections to the solenoids has come loose.

What is the ideal battery size for nissan xterra 2002 model?

Odyssey or Optima, exactly which one depends on what you want to run really (stereo, winch, frig, lights...?). Below is my Optima Yellow, it's a deep cycle battery which is good if you running a winch. I took it to a highend stereo install shop to have it custom wired because they don't make a reverse terminal and my battery terminals did not accomodate it well.
Part No. Yellow 34/78
Model No. 989237
CA - 870
CCA - 750
AH - 55
RC - 120
Cost - $166 including tax at Costco

Exide makes a spiral wound battery like the Optimas that goes under the Orbital brand name. Every bit as good a battery as the Optimas and Odysseys. If you're looking for a standard lead acid battery, the Die Hards and Interstates are most likely the best.

Replacing spare tire winch 2004 chev trailblazer

I have a '02 TrailBlazer and I had the same problem. When I got a flat and went to change the tire on the side of the road I was not able to get the tire off the winch. Luckly, I have AAA and the driver knew the trick to getting the tire free. The process involved lowering the tire as far as it would go and then kicking it. Wind back up and repeat until the winch free's itself.

When I took the car into the shop to get the tire fixed and the have the spare put back on the car, they were not able to get the winch free enough to put the tire back on. They said that is is a common problem with this mechanism and suggested replacing the winch system (estmated parts and labor $215). From what I can tell the winch accumulates rust up in the cable and locks up.
