Freelander 2006 HSE loss of power and black smoke. Pulled on to the Freeway started to increase speed... loss of power and black smoke. Managed to get home but strange engine noise. Advise please ...

did you overheat it?
noise is a very bad thing for all machines.
can be just a loose heat shield to , soon end of engine life. boom.
assume the worse and accept the best.
I always solve noise first.
that takes hands on, nobody can guess, (you will see lots)
there are some really simple tests to find engine noise.
its in the first chapters of most FSM printed.
due to importance.
tools, hose to ear?

I cannot get into my Range Rover HSE as the battery is out of power

You might be able to get under the car and connect jumper cables to the starter to charge the battery. Anything bigger than 12 gauge wire would do it.

I Have a Range Rover 97 4.5 HSE. The Brakes were working fine then I was sat in a trafic jam for 2 hours, as I started to move again, the ABS BRAKE and TC lights all came on and the brake pedal goes down...

First thing to do is check the brake fluid and be sure it is full. Next look under the vehicle and make sure you do not have fluid leaking on the ground or on the inside of a tire. The problem may be the booster but make sure there is no leaks in the system before you drive it.

No it doesn't. I have been trying to get an FM transmitter for my 2005 HSE but even that is an issue.

I am looking for correct spark plug gap settings for 1999 4.6 HSE range rover

Look for a sticker around the engine compartment.

I could not find this specific specification for your year make and model on the library's website.

Check your owner's manual, if included with your vehicle.

good luck to you.

WHAT OIL SHOULD I PUT IN MY HSE

I would go to the Amsoil page to find what oil you need. It is really good stuff and in some cases lasts 10k miles or 1 year if you get the right filter. Very good stuff, worth the money!

Range Rover 4.6 HSE. 97' 1. What does HSE

The HSE designation refers to a Sport Edition 'Rover, not a higher-priced premium edition.
Changing fuel grades can harm an engine that doesn't have computer controlled valve timing.
Symptoms include a pronounced, fast "knock" (usually when you go from 93 to 87 octane) and using a fuel with a higher octane rating than the vehicle requires (example: 93 versus 87) sends unburned fuel into the emissions system and catalytic converter. This puts stress on the emissions system. For some vehicles, a rotten egg smell or a pop when the fuel burns off in the catalytic converter coming from the tailpipe signals use of higher than needed octane gas.
