The starter motor has two voltage circuits. One comes from the battery, hot all the time. The other circuit goes hot with key in the start position and starter relay is energized. The starter motor grounds through the engine block. If voltage and ground for the starter motor are good, then I would have to check starter motor. You can use a test light to check voltage. Any testing at starter motor make sure tranny is in park or neutral and parking brake is set.

Just to add, my info is only good if starter motor won't crank. Sometimes, I do jump the gun as far as cranking and starting, to different issues.

A 2005 Cruiser is due for a starter, due to age. Try shifting gear selector to N and try to start. If it starts, the Neutral safety switch is not working in park position. Make sure E- brake is applied during N test, to prevent run away hazard.

Battery has nothing to do with the engine starting other than turning it over. You need to check why the engine is not starting - spark, fuel, air, compression, etc. Search YouTube for "engine cranks but won't start" to see many offerings for diagnosing your problem.

Is B+ voltage getting to the starter ? Cables ,connections ? When turning the key to the start ,is the starter relay being energized ? Is all this greek to you ?
How to voltage drop test starter motor circuit
Do you know how to do electrical system testing ? Know what a wiring diagram is ? http://www.bbbind.com/free_tsb.html Enter the vehicle info. year , make , model ! Under system click on engine ,then under subsystem click on starting ! Click the search button ,then the blue link . Looking at the wiring diagram you'll see when tuning the key to start this sends B+ voltage to energize the starter motor relay . You see after the relay the B+ voltage ends up at the PCM - powertrain control module , which will supply a ground to that circuit IF the PCM see's the transmission is in park or neutral and there is no other issues . Like anti-theft system problems .( if the system disables the starting circuit.

2005 PT Cruiser showing P0456 and P0522. Cranks but wont start.

The sensor that is most likely causeing the problem is the low oil pressure sensor. It is telling the cpu that you have a problem that unless you correct it, the motor will suffer serious damage from insufficient lubrication.Have the oil pressure checked with a manual gauge then replace the sensor unit if faulty.

Pt cruiser 2009 wont stay charged. what is the problem?

Sounds like a bad alternator and or voltage regulator. It's easier just to replace both. You could take to a auto parts house. Many times they have a tester that can tell you exactly what the problem is.

I have been having issues starting my 2005 PT cruiser. the lights and gauges work but wont turn over. I replaced the battery about a year ago.

I would still have battery tested just to be safe, also check starter, and wires on starter,(the small ones),also check starter relay if equiped.

My p.t.cruiser has been standing for 8 months battery has a full charge but it will not turn over (CAR IS 2000 MODEL) had jump start no go had tow no go gas tank is full all lights work but no it wont...

Did you use the fuel that was sitting in there for 8 months? If so, you probably clogged something in the fuel system. Either the fuel filter, the injectors, or the filter on the fuel pump itself.
