SOURCE: How do I remove the starter motor bushing?

The best way I have found is to use a small flat blade screwdriver to break the bronze bushing apart, but becareful of the bellhousing. The bronze bushing will break apart pretty easy. Of course, VW makes a tool to remove it, which is about impossible to find. I have heard of taking a tap and tapping some threads into the bushing and then screwing a bolt into it and trying to pull it out.

BELLHOUSING

Well, that would be a LOT of work.
Let's try the easier way!
In the business, what used to be was a "Heli-coil". This is a piece of metal that you would screw into a stripped hole so you could later install a screw.
2 weeks ago my garage showed me a new item that does the same thing.
The new item was black in color, and the size of the screw hole you need.
I don't remember what the name of it is, but what you do is to either insert it into the hole, or maybe drill out the hose first, then insert it.
Please look into this where you live and see what you can find.
Be blessed.

Location of starter on 97 dodge caravan 3.0 engine

Your starter should be on the left side of the engine in the area where the bellhousing meets the engine block (under the car) It's about the size of a large juice can and has a bunch of wires going to it (including the positive lead from battery) Make sure you disconnect the positive lead of battery when working on it and make sure you remember what wires went where so you can put it back in!
