The crankshaft sensor is mounted between the engine and the transmission bell housing on the upper right side of the back of the engine. Not easy to get to, but you should be able to see it looking into the right front wheel well. The camshaft sensor is in the distributor. It's a slotted plate that rotates with the distributor shaft below the rotor.

Location of crank sensor on a 1991 dodge dakota v6 3.9

Click on the link, part of your wiring diagram.
If you have a distributor, you don't have a crank sensor. There is a cam sensor in distributor. W/o more info concerning your problem, I'm not sure what is happening? Any applicable trouble codes? Engine cranking, you have spark at the plugs--proper fuel pressure--and fuel injector pulse?

2003 dodge Dakota 4.7l. High mileage. OBDII throwing a new code everytime I fix something. Crank sensor & Cam sensor - replaced. IAC-replaced. PCM-replaced. Throttle body cleaned. O2...

Have you checked the wiring that goes to both the Crank and Cam sensors? Most of the time the wires are close to a heat source (ie: exhaust manifold) and the plastic covering starts to melt causing the cooper on wires to make contact and thus making engine stop, you will have to take off the protective covering as well as tape around the wires and inspect each and every one. Had same problem with Dodge caravan, it turns out the Crank Sensor plug wires were melted together. Good Luck.

Troubleshootin po1391 and po740

The 1391 most likely is the cam sensor or crank sensor, crank sens is located in the bell housing on the pass side and I believe the cam sensor is in the distributor, 740 is a TCC (Torque Convertor Control) performance code. The crankshaft sensor is my 1st choice, TCC performance is calculated comparing engine speed to vehicle speed.

98 Dodge Dakota "pick up coil" cam position sensor repeat failure

Honestly? Cruddy parts.

I have a Dodge Stratus....97....same thing here. Unfortunately, shoddy parts, even from the dealership. I think the best thing is to keep a fresh one on hand. I know that the wiring is garbage too due to how the harness curls up to the sensor. Not much to tell you on this one.
