How to replace seal on the fuel tank that filler tube goes into on 1997 Lincoln town car

You need to remove the filler neck, it has screws I think inside the gas fill door. Pull it out of the fuel tank, go under the car and remove the old rubber donut seal where tube enters the fuel tank, spray some car cleaner on the rubber and as quickly as possible insert the tank fill tube and put it all back together.

When pumping gas in a 2000 hyundai it the nozzle keeps cutting off . it take forever to fill the gas tank up

i`m guessing that you have tried to install the nozzle in different places in the filler neck while filling the car.if this you have tried then you may have a bad vent valve that is not working properly causing excess air pressure in the fuel tank shutting off the nozzle.have a shop check this out for you.

There could be a tiny rust hole in the fuel filler neck ,or the cap may not be sealing the filler neck properly. Check for rust on the filler neck, and on the sealing surface of the filler neck opening.

2003 crown vic check engine light on and can't fill gas tank to fast or it comes out bottom of car?

Might have a leak in the fuel filler neck. either the neck itself has a hole (rust?) or the short rubber hose that connects the neck to the fuel tank is bad. Normally the fuel system is sealed, if the gas cap is loose, for example, that will cause a check engine light. I think you have a hole somewhere in the tank or filler neck that is causing this.
If you can examine it from underneath, you might be able to see the problem, look for stains from the gas. If you can see the problem, it should not be hard to fix.

What can i do to fix the problems of po440,441 and 446?

Hello, and welcome to FixYa. Please allow us to assist you.

You have a verry common condition; we see this quite often.

The codes you mention are usually caused by one (or a combination) of the three things that follows.

1. You do not have the 'factory' fuel tank cap fitted to the car; 'Aftermarket' fuel caps do not seal properly, and the leak of thefuel fumes under the cap will light the light.

2. The o-ring that seals the cap to the fuel filler neck is worn, or otherwise compromised, which will also allow the fumes to escape and light the light.

3. There could be rust on the filler neck tube, which would not allow a tight seal between the cap
s o-ring seal and the filler neck.

I would recommend replacing the fuel cap with a factory replacement, and inspect the filler neck sealing surface for rust buildup. If you see rust, a replacement filler neck will be in order.

Thanks for choosing FixYa fo assistance today.

How do I remove the fuel tank from my x300? I have undone the two straps, wireing, and disconnected the fuel pipe but the tank is still quite rigid and does not want to move, can you help.

After removing all connections and wiring from the tank and the sending unit and depressurize fuel system and drain the fuel tank and most importantly TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY this is what you have to do :
1- Make sure to mark the wires for the sending unit so that you do not have a problem connecting in the correct place. 2- Remove bolts securing spare wheel mounting bracket and remove bracket. 3- Remove tank upper insulation pad. 4- Disconnect fuel pump harness from evaporative loss flange connection 5- Release harness attached to tank retaining straps and reposition harness downward. 6- Disconnect vapor pipe assembly from underbody pipe. 7- Push back collars on quickfit connectors and remove vapor pipe and over-pressure pipe from evaporative loss flange port. 8- Remove bolts securing tank retaining straps. 9- reposition straps upwards for access. 10- Remove strap holding filler housing solenoid block connector to harness and disconnect connector. 11- Disconnect drain tube from aperture seal (small pipe beside big one) 12- Open filler cap and remove filler neck garter spring. 13- Remove filler housing bolts. 14- Displace filler housing from body opening 15- Remove fuel tank. 16- Remove hose from evaporative loss flange and filler neck , ( Bend weld tag upwards to release hose). 17- Remove evaporative loss flange lock ring. 18- Lift flange from tank enough to disconnect fuel pump harness. 19- Remove flange and seal. 20- Inside tank , loosen hose clamps and remove fuel hoses from fuel pump module. 21- Remove fuel pump module and mounting rubber , note position of mounting rubber lugs. 22- Loosen hose clamps and remove two fuel hoses inside tank. 23- Remove tank sending unit. 24- Remove magnetic drain plug and make sure that you clean it well.
That is it your tank is out , and make sure that you mark every thing that you disconnected to install back in its proper place.
