SOURCE: I have a 98 mercury mystique v6, When I try to start,

just a stab in the dark here. maybe starter drive bad, or starter sellinoid, or the worst case teeth gone on one section of flywheel. i would say its either starter drive or starter sellinoid. either case starter has to be removed. hope this helps. OLD SCHOOL.

SOURCE: I've got a 1998 Mercury Mystique with a 2.5L

Yeah you can but it won't be easy. I would check some salvage yards for one with a stick in it. That way you can find all the parts you will need. Not only do you need the trans, you will need clutch, flywheel, slave cylinder, master cylinder, Clutch and brake pedals, cv shafts, mounts, shifters, shifter cables, and the computer, plus some other parts. I have done some of these conversions, they are not impossible. I have done this to a 2000 BMW 323. I can help you more if you want.

SOURCE: where is the transmission speed

Hi,
You will find this on the back of the transmission, it has a large square connector and wiring connector to it. It has 1 bolt holding it in place.
Thanks
Jason

Hesitation or slight bucking when shifting from 2nd-3rd.

Why are you shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear ? is this a standard or automatic? If its a automatic its normal for the torque converter to catch up with the speeds of the tranny. To save the life of your tranny try to let the tranny do the work by itself and don't shift unless in adverse weather conditions.

I have a 95 mercury mystique and it starts but but

THE ENGINES THROTTLE BODY HAS A TPS WICH IS CALLED A THROTTLE POSITIONING SENSOR

It has a built in reostat inside of it which can get a flat spot anywhere in its circuit explaining why your car hesitates or sounds like it is ready to stall out
'
I would replace it and have the voltage set at 1.5 volts when set at the idle position
Then it should run fine again

97mecury mystique wont shift into third

Very common for Ford/Mercury trannys. Do you have the 4.6 L in this car by chance?
The tranny will have to be rebuilt. There is most likely syncro or other part of the tranny, which there are several, that could be causing this. The tranny will have to have a thurough look-through. If you have a vacuum operated actuator on the outside of this tranny, it wouldn't hurt to check for leaks. Also a VERY good idea to change your tranny fluid and filter on any vehicle every 30,000 miles.
