SOURCE: 1997 Ford Escort losses power

Do you have a blown head gasket? Just a guess. If you do this is one of the symptoms. You may have some coolant in your oil. Check your inside the valve cover for water by looking in through the oil cap.

SOURCE: After driving for an hour

I had the same issues for most of last summer. Finally, I replaced the Plug Wires and the car has been working like a charm since. The other problem I found was that I had the wrong plugs. It seems there are only two types for the Focus, the local parts guys quoted me the incorrect part number and my fuel efficiency went to ****.

Change thermostat on heat

Make sure the engine is cool. Follow the top radiator hose back to where it meets the engine. That coupling is where your thermostat is. Remove the hose and then the couple of bolts that hold on that fixture. When that is off you will see the thermostat. Pull it out and replace it with the new one then put it back together. You will have to take off a couple things to get to it but nothing difficult. When you are done make sure to replace the antifreeze you will lose doing this. Start your vehicle once it is at the full level, let it run for a minute or two and then check it and top off if necessary. First time will take you a couple hours. After that about 30 minutes.

Car loses power for short time after normal running and cooling down for ten minutes

sounds to be symptomatic of a CTS (coolant temperature sensor). there are two, one is for the interior temp gauge, the other is for the ECU/PCM while both are basicalty the same part, often even the same P/N, they both do extremely different things.

It sounds like you might have a clogged catalatic converter on the exhaust system.

2000 ford excursion v10 driving down the road

Honestly you should send it into the dealer. I don't think guessing will help you. Typically it is a dirty connection into the steering column (behind the ignition key) But diagnostics need to be run and a look at the VSS system (through a good scan tool) is needed to confirm.

CAR JUST SHUT OFF !!!!

Check the connections at your battery. If they are OK, suspect your alternator.

If you live fairly close to a good parts store, (call them first and see if they will test your battery and alternator), have someone jump your car.

Note: Don't just start the car. Let your friend have his/her car sit running for at least a half an hour, If the car runs good after this, you can really suspect that the alternator is bad. Drive it to the store and have them do the test.

Remember to check your connections first because if you have a lot of corrosion on the terminal, a good alternator may not be able to charge your battery.

Hope this helps.

Power steering

With the engine off, fill the reservoir with fluid and turn the wheels slowly lock to lock a few times. Top off the fluid and start the engine. If it still whines a bit, turn the wheels back and forth a couple times and then shut it off. Let it set about an hour or so until the fluid looks a solid color again.
