There is part found on almost all vehicles that is called a "ring plate".
That part is most often found between the engine and the transmission, and is the part the starter gear engages when you crank the starter with the ignition key.
If this is what you are asking about, yes, it is a really big problem, because you must remove the engine and/or the transmission to replace it.
God bless your efforts.

If I buy a new central locking key for my sprinter can I programme it myself ?

Def not,

Take it to a key cutter with appropriate software to mate it to your spare key

As a second note keep your key bunch light on 2008 sprinter or you'll break the esr ring

Electronic sensor ring - big bucks to fix and lots of downtime. This happened to me.

Esr ring if it goes will leave electronic solenoid in steering lock engaged and once you've had the sprinter put on the back of a truck and taken to main dealer they replace key box and then everything has to be re- paired with ecu

Big big bucks.

But a great van :-)

How do I go about obtaining a drive ring (big cog) with 10 teeth missing

Depends, if an automatic transmission, you will need to drop trans and replace flex plate ( one piece). If a standard trans , again drop trans and clutch assembly remove flywheel and either replace flywheel or sometimes they have a replaceable ring gear but that is a hard job since it must be heated up to expand over flywheel

Replace piston rings on beetle

THis job requires a lot of ability and is not a job for beginners. It involves engine out, head off. removal of wear lip at top of cylinders. big ends off , pistons out. Checking ring gap of new rings, checking pistons, assembling rings without breaking them, REplacing pistons, big ends head and gasket. checking cam timing etc. As I said it is not a job for beginners and you will need a lot of expert guidance for the job

MY 1996 JEEP CHEROKEE will not crank, replaced the starter and charged the battery. I get a high whine when i attempt to start

Does it go rrrrrrt? try haveing key out of ignition, turn motor a bit by hand (with a socket on balancer bolt) Then try to start. If starts you will probably need a new ring gear (big job, gearbox out) Ring gear can be inpected by removeing inpection plate from bottom of bell houseing if it has an inspection cover otherwise remove starter & turn motor by hand whilst inspecting ring gear. starter drive gear meshes with ring gear & wears only in o couple of places

Van lost power going up hill, now goes on flat rds about 100 mtrs then dies. nissan serena

There are 3 reasons for this:-
Worn out piston rings
Clutch Plate worn out
Fuel pump not working properly.
Better will be to take it to a garage and have it checked for these defects.

The van has an issue with stalling. Have replaced the fuel pump, coil pack and it still will not run. If left to sit for awhile, it will start and drive, but only for a very short distance, then stall...

Try cleaning the throttle body. remove the big black air hose and with the engine OFF, hold the throttle open and see how the throttle plate is black. it should be a smooth transition. Carbon ring starves the engine for air at idle, especially when it is warm outside.

Vehicle failed emissions testing

You need to replace the intake upper plenum gaskets. There is two pieces, a top cover with one big silicone o-ring gasket and a lower half with six smaller silicone o-rings for the individual intake ports. You can buy these as a set, just for this job. Start this job by removing the wiper blades, then release all the screws, (including the ones that support the wiper motor), that hold that big black plastic valence at the back of the engine compartment. Pull that out of the way, you will have to pull the windshield washer hose through it, just disconnect it on the engine side, now you have access to the plenum. It's a pretty easy job now to remove and replace both halves, just a bunch of 8mm screws hold it all together. Take notes or digital pics along the way so you can pop it all back together. My only caution would be; when you have it apart, do not drop anything in the intake port! I always stuff kleenex in these while I'm working in case something slips out of my hands. Also, don't over tighten, it's all plastic. If you don't want to do it yourself, a shop should charge about an hour and a half, plus the codes must be reset and the van driven until all the monitors are ready.

Removing a speed limiter from a vauxhall combo cdti van

The speed-limiter is likely to be enabled via the ECU. Removing the limiter is a five-minute job if you have access to the GM Tech 2 electronic management/diagnostic tool.

If the van is yours then there's no legal requirement for the limiter. You could just book it in at a Vauxhall dealer for the limiter to be removed. They may charge you for an hour's labour though. Still worth doing in my opinion.

Rear end seal leak

You must be refering to the side seals. common problem. the actual problem with those rear ends is the air breather, which cloggs up and that's when your seals blow out, because the pressure in the rear end has nowhere to go and so your seals get blown out. I just did a set on Monday. Anywho, you will need some specialty tools for this. You will need to remove both rear brake assemblys (rotors, calipers). Than look on the other side of the backing plate, there you will see 4 big nuts that hold the backing plate on the axle tube (rear end). Remove those 4 nuts and that's where specialty tools become usefull. You will need a slide hammer. You need to attach the slide hammer onto the axle right by the studs. Use factory whel nuts to attach. Remove axle out of the housing with few good slides of the slide hammer. Once the axle is out, you need to remove the snapp ring, then cut the colar off and remove colar, then remove the old bearing and thats where the seal is. Big help doing this job is a pneumatic air hammer, which helps you remove the stuff off the axle shaft and the slide hammer to remove the axles out. You will need 2 seals, 2 bearings and 2 collars. You may also need the plates with the studs, which had the big nuts, that you removed in first steps of this repair. Kind of a job for someone that has been working on cars and has the tools to do it. Good luck. Oh ya, change the breather and the fluid in the rear end.
