Do you know what a serial data communication network is ? All the control modules on your vehicle share info on it . It stead of hard wiring all the componets on the vehicle they use control modules and a data network . U codes are problem codes assoicated with these networks . U0073 generic control module communication bus"a"OFF Has nothing to do with engine sensors ! Condition
The control modules transmit and receive information via a standardized serial communication method - CAN (Control Area Network).
The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored if the control module detects that:
  • The control module does not have contact with the controller area network (CAN).
  • Incorrect value runs longer than 10 seconds.
The control module's test for the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) starts in the event of:
  • Starting the control module's CAN communication.
Note!The control module can only detect the fault once the test has been started and the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored when the conditions are met. In the event of system communication problems, it is not possible to communicate with the control module. Therefore it will only be possible to read off the fault if it is intermittent. I didn't have heat before I replaced thermostats so I was wondering if a vacuum line fell of that controls a door in the heater itself?


I looked at your hvac, the actuators are electric. Have you checked applicable fuses? If you think temp door actuator has a problem have to check wiring and that the door isn't stuck. Can you check for hvac trouble codes, see if anything shows up? Some of the national brand auto stores will check codes for free, if there are any?

With the engine warmed up, the heater hoses do get hot, correct? The engine also reaches normal operating temp?

sounds like you have a temp door motor problem on the drivers side. the motors seize/stick and have to be replaced.

When a problem like this or other drive-ability related problems occurs the computer stores a record of the problem (there are of course some exceptions to this, like the fuel pump, engine coolant temperature sensor and MAF sensor for instance) in the form of a fault code in its memory, to read these fault codes you must have the systems memory scanned with a special tool. Once the fault code(s) are read you then must perform the appropriate diagnostic testing to find and resolve the problem(s) DO NOT REPLACE ANY PARTS UNTIL A TRAINED TECHNICAIN HAS DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM TO AVOID SPENDING YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY ON PARTS THAT MAY NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. Depending which HVAC system you have Manual (sliders for temperature) or Auto (digital readout), the control module is likely at fault. The Manual HVAC has a Resistor Module (which have a high failure rate) and the Auto HVAC uses an electronic module. Both of these are mounted next to the blower motor located behind the glovebox.
