SOURCE: The low battery icon started

Hi,

Initially and based on your description, it is doubtful if the problem is "shortage or fuse related". To my understanding, your concern is that the "low battery indicator" comes on and off. This indicator although says battery is low actually indicates that the battery is not charging. And the only component in your vehicle responsible for this is the alternator. It could possibly be then that:

  1. belt is slipping (most likely); and/or
  2. the alternator is defective (either diode or regulator) (likely)
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

The brake light combined with the battery light tells me that your alternator is not sufficiently charging the battery. These 2 lights illuminate in tandem when the voltage regulator is not seeing over 12.5 volts. You are going to probably have to replace the alternator, or get it checked & overhauled at an alternator shop.

sounds like the belt is loose. if it has a tensioner check and or replace it, if not tighten the belt. or the alternator tests ok but is actually not working at low rpm. or the battery is shorted. electricity is tricky

SOURCE: 2002 Ford Excursion battery light come on intermittently

Remove power to all aftermarket components, if you know how to use a multi-meter connect to power source inside vehicle.. Drive normal, if voltage drops below 12v while driving, it is faulty alternator. If bat light comes on and voltage is above 12v the plug on the alternator might be correded and throwing faulty light, or bad ground in gauge cluster...

SOURCE: battary light on , engine cut off car won't crank

sounds like it's your alternator, your alternator charges your battery and runs car once it is started. if you have a bad alternator your battery light will come on, and shortly after your vehicle will die, unable to restart without a jump. I would take your battery to autozone or an auto shop to have your battery and alternator tested.

My Buick Rendezvous's battery keeps dying. Charged it, died again. The battery light keeps turning on then it dies. I don't know what to do, I really need this car. I dont know if its the alternator.

The Battery Light coming on usually indicates the charging system is not working. If you can limp it down to your local Auto Parts Store they will usually check your battery and charging system for free.
Yes a fuse can cause charging system to malfunction - also there will be a Major Fuse/Fusable Link. If you have your owners manual there will be a section showing fuse locations and description.
Let me know if and how this helps you
thanks

I changed cam position sensor because it shorted out the elect system, change battery cables to starter and fused box still have the battery light still on

You need to have your alternator checked. It charges your battery while the car is running. Your battery light comes on when the battery is low on power. You alternator may be weak or not working at all. I would have it tested.

Battery light and abs light is on and battery wont stay charged, new battery and altenator is good

This sounds like a bad alternator , maybe it charges at times and other times it does not, check connections to battery and at alternator, also make sure all fuse are good.

Battery keeps draining and have to get jump starts to start the car every time. Brand new Altenator, and Battery, New Transmission. Any Ideas?

heres what u do.. get u a 12 volt light up tester.. u can usually buy them at autozone for 5-12 dollars u have to get one of the heavier ones. unhook your positive battery terminal hook the tester from the battery terminal on the battery to the cable..(your battery has to be charged for this to work) the tester should light up if u have a short anywhere or the constant on the radio might light it up.. then you pull the fuses one at a time until the light goes out.. u have to pull each fuse because u might have more than one short.. once u have done that u will know if you have any shorts in your wiring thats draining your battery.. hope this helps

My dad purchased a suzuki swift new in 2009 from garage and it is now on its 3rd battery. The garage just replace the battery with a new one. What could be causing the battery to go flat

1- battery with low voltage or out of charge for several days 2- excessive usage of electrical equipment esp. the lights while the engine off 3- low battery fluid level 4- and rarely, hyper voltage supplied to the bat. 5- check the dynamo belt (loose)

Battery not charging light comes on. new battery

I don't know what kink of car you have, but some will have a alternator fuse, also with a volt meter check voltage on big wire at back of alternator should have 13.5 + volt's, then check voltage at battery should have same voltage there also, do this with car running, if you do not have same voltage at battery less short between alternator and battery or bad fuse. There also some fuse links at starter on some car's.

1998 Corvette drains the battery in less than 2 days.

No, corrosion will not cause a battery to drain, even if the corrosion is on the terminals. Several factors can cause battery drain, I would first have the battery tested to see if the battery it self is not bad. If the battery is good, then the most common is a short. All most all new cars have a certain amount of drain,(measured in milivolts) this drain is for clocks and computer memory's, and it would take several days of a vehicle sitting for the battery to be drained. Don't immediately assume you have a problem if you see 2-6 milivolts of drain on a battery with the key out, now if your battery is being drained after being parked over night, you have a problem. The easiest way to pin down the problem short is to disconnect your positive battery cable from the battery, take a 12 volt test light and clamp one end to the positive cable, and hold the probe to the positive post. Now if you have a short the light will come on. Have someone help you by pulling the fuses one at a time. If when a fuse is pulled the light goes out you have isolated the short to that system. If you pulled all the fuses and the light never went out try disconnecting all the wires from the alternator, 9 times outta 10 do this will let you know where your short is. If the system is not critical like power locks some people just leave the fuse out.
