Question about 1996 BMW 318

325i BMW, 2003 (Automatic) Fuel Pump/Filter or fuel pressure regulator problem? 3 weeks ago car would stall when shifted in Drive mode. After a couple of retries it would pull away. 500 feet later would stall again when stopping a junction. Put it in reverse and pulled away. Then shifted back to Drive and worked again. Got home, parked car and did not use for rest of day. After that car worked fine until yesterday when it basically stalled again when trying to leave the house. Drove approximately 15 miles (including highway) during which distance it stalled 3 more times trying to pull away after coming to full stops at traffic lights. Car was left parked for 1.5 hours and restarted without any problems. Drove another 20 miles without further stalling. Could it be the fuel filter or the pump or maybe the fuel pressure regulator? Or a lose electrical plug? Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated.

Your camshaft position sensor may be going bad. usually with an old car it tend to go bad. The top of sensor can be covered or gumed up with grease, oil, dirt and cause it not to detect the flywheel turning. Camshaft sensor send single to your DME to deliver fuel and sparks to you engine. If camshaft sensor goes bad it will seem like your fuel pump and ignition coil is bad even-though they are good. Faulty camshaft sensor may caused you to have this issue and problems such as sometime it run good and all of sudden it shut off, sometime its start good and others time is doesn't start. Once the sensor goes bad, the car will not run. There are two Sensor one for the fuel and one for the sparks, I would replace both sensor because soon or later if it will go bad, it will leave you stranded although if you replace one you might as well replace the other. Check the coil and test using the light or volts tester to see you getting power to the coil, next check if your fuel pump is working, fuel pump will not stay running unless the sensor sense the flywheel is turning from your camshaft sensor. next time when your car does not start, check if you getting spark and fuel. Both sensor will cost you around 130 bucks. assuming your DME, fuel pump, coil, wires, etc... is working. keep me update and I will try to walk you through. btw stop by at any auto part store and pick yourself up Haynes auto repair book for your car, its a great tools and investment to have for your next repair work if you plan to keep your car and get to know the heart of it. good luck and i hope that help some.

SOURCE: bmw 325i 2003 stall

Sounds like you have a small bit of dirt or grit in the fuel system when accelerating it is drawn with enough force to cut off the fuel supply then is released when engine at Idle.
1 run liquid fuel line/injector cleaner in 1 tank
2 check fuel lines for debris
3 change fuel filters
4 have fuel tank flushed
here is trouble shooting order less expense to greater.

1992 325i bmw no fuel in fuel rail to start the car has a new fpr fuel filter fuel lines and fuel pump but no fuel is getting in the rail and rail is not cloged air flows through it freely

check for a vacuum in the fuel tank that is preventing the pump from moving fuel through the system. Air should not flow freely through the manifold as there is a regulator in the system that maintains the fuel pressure for the injectors. It should stay shut for a pressure of around 50 psi before it allows the air to flow out

Repacing fuel filter on 1996 intrepid

1) Relieve the fuel system pressure by first removing the fuel pump relay from the Power Distribution Center. Then, start the engine and let it to run until it stalls. Try starting it again and allow it to run until it stalls. Continue restarting the engine until the car will no longer start. Turn off the ignition.
2) Disconnect one electrical connector from an injector. Use an alligator clip to connect an end of a jumper wire to either injector terminal. Connect the other end of the jumper wire to the positive side of the battery. Then, connect an end of a second jumper wire to the other injector terminal. Very briefly touch the other end of the jumper wire to a ground.
3) Locate the fuel filter, which is part of the fuel pressure regulator mounted on the fuel pump module. Disconnect the negative battery cable, then lower the fuel tank. Disconnect the fuel lines from the filter.
4) Remove the fuel line from the pressure regulator. Remove the filter/regulator by pushing in on the locking tab on the filter as you turn the regulator to unlock it. Then, pull it straight up.
5) Push the new fuel filter into the fuel pump module. Turn to lock it in place. Connect the fuel lines, and then you can reinstall the fuel tank. Check for leaks when you start the engine on your Dodge Intrepid.

Low fuel pressure on neon 2003,have change fuel pump, but pressure is low can start if tank is full

Hi.

Check the fuel filter and fuel pressure regulator. They are part of the same assembly and are located on top of the fuel pump. To replace the regulator # Disconnect fuel supply line at the Filter/Regulator nipple and releas locking spring tab (2 in diag.) on the regulator, then turn counterclockwise and pull out. To test regulator use a gauge like this in fuel lines:Pump Pressure Tester.
Pressure in 2003 should be 58psi (48 in 2001 engines). Pressure will drop of about ten psi when you start engine.

There is also an automatic shut down relay ASR. If problem is the ASR the pressure will go down when the relay cuts off power to pump. Read voltages and see if the problem is electrical first before going for the regulator.

Where is the fuel filter located on a 2006 bmw 325i

Like many late model cars there is no external separate fuel filter, it is part of the pressure regulator and is located on the top of the fuel tank, you must drop the tank top replace it. According to BMW this is never needed unless the fuel tank is removed to service the fuel pump module.
